Hello, I have a 1993 Ranger 3.0l that has 3.42 gears according to the door tag, axle code. I also have a 2001-2003 ranger with 4.10 gears. I know the front axles are different, TTB vs IFS, my question is, are the gears able to be swapped from the IFS truck to the TTB truck?

I'm no super worried about the rear, worst case scenario I can swap the entire axle assembly, but the front obviously can not be swapped that way.

Any help/info you can give me will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your help!

rear axle is a super easy swap out, I dont know anything about the ifs ranger front ends but you should be able to source one from another ranger from a junkyard I would think. I dont believe the ttb & ifs used the same gearset. Going from 3.45’s to 4.10’s will make a world of difference, well worth the time & effort. The 3.0 really needs to be up in the rpms to make its power, 3.45’s are a horrible gear for any ranger chassis, I had both a 3.0 & a 2.3 that came with that gear.
Welcome to t.r.s.

Yea, 33's with a 3.42 don't work very well at all! Can't get the truck in 5th gear at all. It's just gonna be a trail truck but needs to be able to drive to the trail without smoking the clutch, offroad isn't an issue because I can use low range.

My other option is swapping out the TTB "carrier/housing" if I'm able to find a 4.10, not really interested in buying a gear set, since I can spend much less money on a whole assembly.

Thanks for your info!

I'm trying to figure out how you guys always can decipher what gears it is from the door panel. Can you share pls how you determined such numbers from the door? Wanna learn.

I don't recall what the code is, but I know when I looked it up online, it said 7.5, open, 3.73 gears.

It's in a shop now getting 4.10s. Talked to them today, and they are finally doing it. They've had it two weeks this past Tuesday. They did finish the shift kit in the trans last week.

Mine's a street rig with relatively low profile tires. Doing it for the pure hell of it.
