This is my pseudo-build-thread. It's really meant more as a place for me to keep track of what I've done. I'm swapping a 4.0L from a 1992 Explorer into my 1986 Bronco II. Eventually I also plan to re-gear the Dana 35 front axle and 8.8-inch rear axle from the Explorer and install them in my BII.

Finished Mods:
1.) M5OD from 1992 Explorer
2.) BW1354 from same 1992 Explorer

Day 1: It's wet and I don't feel like crawling under the truck so not much done. Colds suck. So does rain.

Started disconnecting the engine bay wiring harness from the Explorer.

Day 2: I'm at work :) Just ordered an EVTM for both vehicles, less than 30 bucks total including shipping.

Starting to remember that the in-cab harness is cut off at the cannon connector. That worries me though I'm not scared to splice 9 million wires. Wondering if I can replace the connector, re-crimp the wires, and replace everything without having to deal with the old connector.

Finally got some work done this weekend. Removed the cannon plug and big harness from the Explorer. I also removed the fuel lines, AC lines, power steering lines, unbolted the exhaust and motor mounts and...uh-oh...I'm stuck.

:) I've got nowhere to store the engine until the BII is ready so the 4.0 is still living in the Exploder under a tarp for now.

I'm trying to work my way through the wiring but I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out what I need to start with as I am an idiot.

Not a big update but it's still progress!

Nope. I like my old dash and the Explorer's dash is trashed with a capital "T". I'm also not wanting to use the Explorer's power distribution block.

I got to work and started comparing pinouts on the two ECU connectors. A few additions/changes but nothing major.

If I change the pins around and add what's needed on the BII ECU connector, what other connectors will I have to fool with? I'm not scared of splicing - I just am not sure what my next move should be.

Not sure how to handle the MAP to MAF conversion...I figured I'd delete the wire for the MAP sensor and add a wire to read from the MAF sensor. Sound right?

I also cannot find a knock sensor output to the ECU. RockAuto.com shows a knock sensor for the engine but I can't find a wire on the Exp's ECU connector diagram in my EVTM.

Does this engine use EGR? I can't find anything about it in the EVTM and I am hoping it does not.
