1991 wipers- interval governor or GEM module?

Have a 91 that the wipers work with the switch (turn signal stalk style) in high and low positions but they don't change speed, and the intermittent doesn't function at all. Have looked for the module near the ebrake assy like the OBS have but they use the dash mounted rotary switch. Can't find any info on if the 91/92 years have a GEM or not? Anyone out there know for sure?

GEM started in 1995 Ranger

In 1991 interval governor will probably be mounted left of ashtray above gas pedal

It will not have a wiring plug on it, it will be black and have wires coming out of it that plug into dash wiring harness at 2 places, one connector is from multi-function switch(turn signal stalk)

They are STUPID expensive

Often just unplugging the connectors and plugging them back in gets them to work again

And could be the multi-function switch
Multi-function switch has a variable resistor that SETS the timer for the interval wiper function
The variable resistor is the MOVING part, the part that can get worn out
The Governor/timer is an electronic part, no moving parts, can fail just less likely

If you get a flat tire you usually figure the tire is the issue, not the rim, but could be the rim, lol

Man, I'm stumped went out and searched again to no avail. The looms from the MFS head down and turn left toward the e bke but then join up with the main harness. There are two boxes mounted behind and left of the ashtray, one brown and one black. Both are larger than I would expect and both have plugs not wires coming out......

You can try above drivers kick panel, above parking brake but that was location in the 1980's, I thought it was relocated in 1989 with body change

In 1993/4 they have a plug in(generation change), but didn't think so in 1992 and older

1991 won't have many modules
ABS module can look brown, metal box, with plug in

Sounds like you're there. This is the locator diagram from a 1990 EVTM; your '91 should be the same. That's the ashtray that C217 plugs into, and the smaller of those two boxes is the wiper module.

Yep that's where I found it finally! Had been looking at it but was pretty sure it was wrong since it had a plug instead of a pigtail. Anyway turned the wipers on and unplugged it to verify. Turns out the module is fine though, whomever changed out the MFS at some point removed the plugs by pulling on the wires rather than the plugs themselves which broke almost all of the pin keepers in the plugs so the wires were just backing out of the sockets and not making connection. All fixed up! Thanks for the help!
