Hello, I just acquired at 1990 Ranger 4x4. I want to give it a tune up. Runs ok, but seems to have a minor miss. I'm replacing the spark plugs and wires. What do you all suggest for a brand of plugs and wires. Any other suggestions for tune up as well. Its a 2.9 engine.

Welcome to TRS :)

2.9l has a distributor with TFI module
These need to be timed
Google: ford ranger 2.9l spark timing

You need a timing light of course
Engine needs to be warmed up
You disconnect SPOUT wire, and loosen distributor
then re-start engine
Ford specs 10deg BTDC but most prefer 12deg BTDC

Any good brand of wires are OK
For spark plugs Motorcraft or Autolite are preferred but NGK are also OK

You should probably start your own thread

Go here: https://www.therangerstation.com/forums/index.php?forums/general-discussions.2/
General discussion forum

Above the 1st post you see "thread title" click there and put in a title
Then ask your question in the "message" area
Include year of the Ranger and engine size, also manual or automatic transmission can matter and 2WD or 4x4

There are several things that can cause higher emissions at idle, depends on the engine in some cases, 1990 Ranger had 3 models, 2.3l, 2.9l and 4.0l
