Kinda new to this part. Not sure if I am supposed to start off like this! Has anyone done or heard of anyone that did a 5.0 HO swap into a 1988 Ranger using a 1991 harness? Everything I have found is that with the 91 harness, it is difficult to do. Im looking tips and anything else that may help out. Thanks!

I'm going to move this over to the V8 Swap forum...

Feel free to use the Introduction Forum to say hello... maybe what the overall goal for your truck is and maybe share a picture of your truck. We like old First Gen trucks.

Be sure to check out the Tech Library... lots of information to get that engine under your hood.

Wecome to TRS...

You get what you pay for when using Painless/Ron Francis wiring harnesses. All new wire that's labeled for each individual sensor, new plastic plugs that aren't brittle and breaking everytime you try to un-clip them, etc.. I would recommend using Tesa wire loom harness tape when installing your new harness. It doesn't get sticky/melt like electrical tape and is the same stuff some of the OEM companies use on new cars.

Thanks for the bit of info. I will check out out painless and the other website. I doubt there will be one to plug right into the Ranger without splicing. I think the biggest issue with the harness I have is supposedly in the 91 Mustang, the fuel pump relay is under the seat and not in the engine compartment. I need to try and find some schematics on both vehicles and go from there. I think Im gonna be doing a lot of splicing!

You are messing with old school fuel injection. In those days the fuel injection harness was separate from the rest of the harness. The only connections you will need to the truck are some power and ground connections, and possibly a tachometer connection.

The water temp sensors are separate. You have a old school cable speedometer. Old school separate system for ABS if you even have it.
