I have a 1988 Ranger with a 2.9l and a 6inch skyjacer lift with 33's. I just bought a 1965 ford 289. My question is what all do I need to do the swap besides (engine mounts, headers, oil filter relocator, and an oil pan) What type of tranny should I use? Can I use the stock t-case? Any info will help.

IIRC 65 was a change-over year. Is it a 5 bolt or 6 bolt pattern block?

Here is a good link to get you started down the road on a V8 swap.:icon_thumby:
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/V8Conversions.html

A few other things to add to your list would be driveshafts (shorten and lengthen), radiator, fuel regulator (if going from EFI to carb), trany (manual or auto) and the list could get a lot longer depending on what you want to achieve with your build. You can use the stock t-case (I am) unless you plan on putting a lot of horses under the hood and use the truck as a 4x4 rig only. I have had no problems but the amount of off road I do is very small. Have fun doing your build.:icon_cheers:

You will need the elusive dipstick in pan oilpan, not the one without the dipstick that all but grows on trees.

Are there any good aftermarket oil pans that would work good and have a dipstick? Also what type of tranny would you suggest?

You can get the pans most anywhere.

One vehicle they were originally found on was the 1979 Mustang.

You can't post a link from napa, but p/n STP FP11C is one from there ($119)

$81 at rockauto.

What vehicles came with a c4 transmission that would be a match for my 289?
