I recently purchased a 1988 STX with the factory lift kit (High Rider option).

I would like to get the truck as close to original as possible. Original sized tires, no changes to the suspension, etc.

I can't seem to find what shocks that came with from the factory. I'm looking for the OE replacement, not some other similar spec ones.

My idea is if Ford made all the changes to the suspension in the High Riders, then those parts are the ones that must work well with the other parts in the suspension. I will be replacing any other worn suspension parts with OE.

I don't do any off roading. It's strictly in town errand running.

Thanks!

I seem to recall that shocks were somewhat hard to find and it was maybe only Sachs that made them, although that was years ago? I ran the Sachs ones for a while and replaced them with Bilsteins. Excellent ride quality. Unless you need it to have OEM parts on it, I would recommend going the route I did

I tried to find Bilstein shocks for my 89 STX which had the factory lift. The only shock they listed back then was for a standard Ranger and were not long enough. Now that Bilstein has the 5000 series, that may work. The only shocks I could find that specifically stated it was for the factory lift as was made by Heckethorn. I found them at a shop that specialized in Jeep products.

I don't think you will be able to find OEM shocks for a high rider. I couldn't find them back in the 90s, so I doubt they are available now.

Whip out a tape measure and order by dimension.
Hint: Early - 2004 Superduty has the same mounts as the Ranger but varyingly longer shocks depending on specs. (Assuming your looking for cheap...)
Just gonna leave this here.
