So I just purchased this 1987 ranger 2wd shortbed 2.9l V6 automatic from the 2nd owner who bought it in 91 with 19k on it.It does have a few issues like oil leaks on valve covers, front and rear mains.Needs some rust repair but not rotted be any means.Curious what u guys would do with it?Keep it stock?Or modify it?Or should I just give it to my daughter which gets her license in a few yrs?

IMO, a low mileage original Ranger will be worth a little more (1K-2K) than one with high mileage. But nothing like the late 60s early 70s muscle cars that fetch 100s. The reason is there are too many Rangers out there for every year. It's more of a Ranger pride for the vehicle because of looks, reliability, and versatility.

BTW, nice score.

I would fix what's wrong with it and just leave it stock. And give it to your daughter.

I tried to put my daughter in a Ranger... she wasn't having it.

Depending on your list of projects... it looks like a good one to do something with.

I mentioned it to her, she was all for it.What kid wouldn't want a free car when they haven't driven anything on the rd before.

She did... but the car was worn out and not worth fixing when she got it. This story has many twists and turns... I don't care to re-live those days.

Nice find.
I really wish car companies would get back to "colored" interiors. These days it's all black everything, or black with tan accents, or black with gray accents. I miss the Blue interiors, and the Red ones too, and the RARE Green interiors that some of the Mountaineers got.

Grew up in the 70s, 80s, and 90s
that is a clean looking truck. i would fix and give it to her stock so she can learn and grow from that so when you guys to mods, she will feel and appreciate them. plus, you can teach her about vehicle maintenance and have quality time in the garage.

The funny thing was it was 15 mins from my house, and the little old lady that sold it to me told me she couldn't sell it until her 108 yr old mother passed away which she did this past December.Crazy.

Nice find. There aren't many original low mileage Rangers around. I would fix the things that are wrong with it and keep it stock. If you want to dress it up with factory options like aluminum wheels that would look good. Then take it to some car shows.
