I swapped motors awhile back and for some reason or another I didn't put the egr valve on my new motor because it had a block off plate on the intake and exhaust manifold. Truck ran fine for a long period of time, until I just fixed a exhaust leak before the catalytic converters. Now it runs great until it heats up to operating temps, then starts to run rich hesitate/stall/dump black smoke out the exhaust. I ran the codes and I'm getting 31 and 41. I'm gonna install the egr and see if that helps first but I forgot how it's mounted, so if I could get pictures of the egr, drivers side exhaust manifold also the vacum lines off the egr, that'd be much appreciated. Thanks all

Perhaps you somehow contaminated the o-2 sensor.

I'm going to check the fuel pressure at the rail tomorrow. Thinking it might be the fpr possibly even though it's a year old. Is there anyway of testing the o2 sensor? I think my truck only has the one on the y pipe before the cats. Should I even go about putting the egr back on?

This is just remembering reading other posts; certain years didn't have egr from the factory.
I've had a similar problem on my '86 2.9 But I didn't get it figured out. I've bought some books on early efi systems and will take another look at my '86 in the future but I have other things on my plate right now. Hopefully someone else with more knowledge pipes up. The only other suggestion off the top of my head is to make sure all the sensors are working properly as a lot of them are interconnected in the computer.
Good luck,

Richard
