I also still have an intereference with the 94 explorer steering column and the brake booster. I see that many people are cutting their firewall to make it fit (the column his the booster because its larger diameter than the stock 86 ranger column and longer).

Shortening the 94 explorer column seems like the best thing to do (for the cleanest look), but will be the hardest since the end of the column is specific to the steering linkage that goes to the steering sector...

Opinions?

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
there are lots of ways to mod it. sectioning firewall and shortening the column...or going to the later column with jointed lower shaft on interior side.

gen 1 is different. that is why i tend to just stand alone the power train and leave the rest

I believe I may have had the same issue. I will take my column out and get take some pics if needed but...

What I did was to elongate (hog-out) the 4 bolt hole bosses in the 94 Explorer automatic lower column support to permit the Explorer column to be installed, farther rearward in the 87 BII cab, through the firewall without effort.

In other words, I made the column install very simple and EXACTLY where it needed to be before the dash. I needed to make a couple additional adjustments later for the dash but they were insignificant...in the grand scheme.
