Truck details: 1986 Ford Ranger XLT 2.3L 4 cyl with automatic transmission. Truck was running fine, my brother turned off the engine and then it would not start. We have replaced the fuel pump and the fuel rail is showing 30lbs of pressure. Replaced the distributor, control module and throttle position sensor. If we by-pass the switch under the dash the truck will crank, but will only run for a brief period. My brother and I have looked through the service manual but can find no reason the truck won't stay running. Any assistance would be appreciated.

If you're bypassing the ignition switch to get it to crank... you may have a bad ignition switch.

Or depending on how it is being bypassed a bad neutral start switch.

I believe the switch that we have to by-pass to get it to start is the Inertia Switch, when it is by-passed the fuel is cut off and the truck with crank with just the fuel in the lines. If not by-passed it does not crank, it acts like it is flooded.
