1985 Ranger Brake Lights Stuck On and Off

My brake lights are staying on sometimes. If I tap the pedal a few times, they will turn off. Other times they will not come on. I have already replaced the switch at the pedal, does this sound like a grounding issue? Or is there something else I should be looking for? Thank you!

That switch is not mounted but swings back and forth with the brake pedal. The wires can get in bad shape over the years so I would check them, and the connections to the brake switch plug.

Thank you, I'll check this next. The truck sat for about 4 years. I've been working on it for about a month. It's running great and this is the last little problem I need to get figured out.
