I was mistaken with my question, no answers were given, so it had absolutley zero value.Don't you want to share the problem and the solution for others to search for and possibly be helped?
Does it have overdrive? I wouldn't be surprised if a 2.0 was bought with a 4 speed. Either way, usually the sloppy shifting can be tied back to the ball ont he bottom of the shifter being worn out IIRC. Memory says that it is a plastic ball that fits into that cup and it can wear down, if not full disentegrate, over time. I recently found out that core shifters actually makes a repalcement short throw shifter for these transmissions. I wish that it had been available years ago when I still had the 2.8L and TK5 in my '84.Bought a 1985 Ranger and the shifter is very loose, does anyone know which transmission this is?

EDIT: SOLVED, I believe it is a TK5.
Yes it's a 5 speed. I could not find a single company that had the correct bushing, and I could only find 1 company that makes the whole assembly. Hopefully this will have it feeling like new.Does it have overdrive? I wouldn't be surprised if a 2.0 was bought with a 4 speed.
