Hey guys so I pulled the trigger on starting all the swapping on my truck today and went and bought me an 91 xploder.
My question for all you guys is do i need a fuel injected bronco iis tank to make this work or can I just get the pump out of one and such I could really use the help.
I live in Gresham, OR if any would help a fellow member.
I work at a wrecking yard so I can get parts I need.
I want to make the swap as fast as possible.
truck is my DD.
Please guys I could really use the help.
I will be doing the axles later when I have more time.
And if anyone will be needing anything from my 2.8l, or the body of the explorer please let me know.

I would say yes. Not familiar with the 85 tank, but it would make sense to go with a fi tank

You can just use a sending unit from an efi tank in a carb tank. Did it on dads.

And do I really have to swap the whole dash I have a screw in the top right corner that aint coming out unless the windshield is pulled. Could I just use the current dash or swap out the gaudges?

With what you have, yes you need to swap dash.

Yes you can use the fuel injection tank from the 2.9 bronco ii. you need the one with the larger opening. You will also need a high pressure fuel pump(inline) to get the pressure you need to run the fuel injection. I just did the swap and my Bronco II runs like a top.

I have a 84 Bronco II and put a 4.0 out of a 93 Explorer. Manual transmission. I pulled the engine wiring harness, found a manual transmission computer, and I'm using the 84 dash. I have no problems. Since I live in California, I installed a check engine light into the light cluster between the speedo and the gauge cluster. Hardest part was finding the correct wires to splice into from the original Bronco wiring into the ones needed to run the 4.0 engine. Was not bad. Went to the Ford dealership and made copies of the wiring schematics and it just took time and patience.

It's not necessary to change the dash but does make the wiring much easier. Although, just to get it running only takes like 4 or 5 wires. It's everything else that takes time. If you decide to keep the dash, don't touch any of your lighting wires.

In 85 the tank should already be correct. The only difference in the tanks between carb and FI is the size of the hole for the sender. I know in 85 the Ranger tanks go the big hole because of the 2.3 getting EFI that year. The 2.3 was never offered in the BII, so I don't know for sure, but I think the hole in the BII tank got bigger that year too.
