And in yesterday's adventure we hit tree roots... and clay!

Going to let it dry out a bit and see if I can get that hump knocked down.
Time to break out the axe mattock.

Nah, I hit it again a few days later. I got them ripped out.

I do need to wander over that way with the chainsaw and nip the stupid tree off though.

Time to ventilate this thing.

Existing (and I assume original)

The "living hinge" at the front isn't going to be alive for long, I kinda worried about losing the lid on the highway.

Old glue was surprisingly supple yet.

Slight size difference.

I could have just got another 9" vent and popped it in. I am wanting to add a fan as an alternative to adding A/C to make it more usable in warmer weather. There is an 11" fan that was tempting because of the size but it had pretty mixed reviews on how well the fan worked and was a off brand.

So this will take it from 9" to a more standard 14" opening.

I can't go ahead any more without running into the light, so it will have to go back 5". Not knowing how far the plywood goes I will probably just take it 5" inboard too so I can at least have plywood on most of two sides to hold it on. If I get out of plywood I will have to add a wooden frame on the inside to screw to as well.

I didn't see any dicor in your parts collection. Might want to consider if you haven't. Both under and over the lip of the mounting frame (right above).

Time to go beyond the point of no return...

But wait, the almost new blade for my old occelating cutter won't fit the new one... but I have an app for that.

Yep, the wood just framed the original vent, nothing extra.

I had a new 1x2 laying around so I broke out the miter saw and to frame it. My old shop teacher would have been proud.

So I threw some paint on those so they don't stick out as obviously.

Then the trim around the top of "the hull" catches on the roof when it comes down, so I found smaller trim that hopefully won't stick out as far to get caught.

Interior stuff installed:

Some more trimming to do topside:

Tonight I picked up the right length screws (a little longer so they would actually reach the wood trim) ran them in until about an inch was sticking out and then put a dab of Dicon on the threads and ran them in.

Got it dragged out of the barn, actually went surprisingly easy.

And we got reservations at the lake for the weekend!

We shall see how good the seal is, its been sitting in a torrential downpour for awhile now.

I installed some in my work trailer to replace broken ones. I didnt notice until a couple months later that one of the 3 was turned 90° from what it should be. Not a big deal unless I drive down the freeway with it up....

Seems like I just left this party...

I jacked up the body and the axle was so rusted the block it actually came up with it. I had to break the block lose with a prybar to get the block out.

Block deleted with new bolts.

Without block.

With block.

So now the camper will have a couple inches more clearance getting into the barn.

My credo
the grey-t escape
Im actually thinking of going “spring under” with my ranger trailer, Ive looked for a idler axle but haven found one the exact length, and wow!- $200+ for a trailer axle, #2000 with just hubs, no brakes or wheels. A guy at work has a 94 shortbed 2wd with bad axle seals, he broke that pin that retains the spiders you have to remove to get the C clips out & remove axles. So were going to swap axles since my trailer axle (which was originally under my ‘94) is also a 3.45 like his. I will just face the pinion yoke backwards so the vent & fill holes will be on the up side and use 303 hydraulic oil instead of 80/90 to hopefully offer less resistance when pulling. If I could get it apart Id pull the pinion completely, Id think most of the resistance is the ring/pinion mesh along with the gear oil. Still need the ring gear to sling oil around & get lube to the axle bearings. It doesnt see much road time, right now the aluminum cap is on it and its storage for chicken supplies.

I waa thinking about a normal trailer axle as I was doing it last night.

For a normal trailer spring under would be awesome.

For me it is just more to crank up my camper.

I am mulling trying to find a cheap set of air shocks so I could just air it way up to to transfer the camper in and out of it actually.

Cranking that camper is a pain... kinda feels sketchy at times even.

When it got loaded in your F150 in my driveway... I was kinda wishing you had already paid me for it.

And that is why I didn't pay you until it was loaded without falling on my truck lol.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Y'all have some trust issues. Maybe we (TRS staff) should have one of those team building seminar retreats.
