Does anyone know where I can get a TK4 or TK5 shifter that has worn out in my Ranger. Or info on how to rebuild this one that is worn out. The ball on the end disentegrated.

My credo
I poop in the furnace.
No idea where to buy one, but I depending on what you mean by disintegrated, they can usually be welded and ground back into the original shape by a decent welder.

If so you can get it through Rock Auto.

That is not what he needs. The TK4/5 were completely different. The actual shift lever/arm/handle has a poly ball on the end that actuates a socket inside the tranny to move the gears. That poly ball wears out and the shift lever becomes terribly loose/sloppy to the point that you can't find the next gear.

I know.....I'm dealing with the same thing right now.

Ahh ok, thanks.

Something that I need to figure out with my Ranger as well before I need one.

Where are you located? I have a complete TK-5 I've been trying to give away here in NC. It came out of my '87 with a 2.0 for a V8 swap. It has a TK-4 shifter that should still work on a 4-speed. I slotted the holes on the RH side to make it fit my 5-speed. It's metal on the bottom instead of plastic like my original 5-speed. The trans leaks everywhere but I never had any issues with it. I've got the trans w/ 4-cylinder bellhousing, shifter, new trans mount, and the slave cylinder and hose are still on it. I didn't have the heart to scrap it.

For anyone interested. The TK5 poly ball on this sifter rod should measure .730" and the inside of the trans where it rides measures .745".

Turns out my issue is not the shifter ball but something else. Or...I'm just expecting too much from a 35yr old design.
