i have also run an electric holley pump and holley adjustable regulator in the engine bay to fuel my wrangler v8 swap and on my 80 bmw when i converted from mechanic fuel injection to a weber 32/36. with no in tank pump, both times the holley worked great.

You could also do away with stock tank and run a fuel cell in the bed with the mechanical fuel pump that is how I have mine

I put an electric fuel pump in my 1985 Boat engine. It's a Chevy 3.0L with a carb. It works great. My mechanical pump shit the bed so I tried this one shown

Worse comes to worse, You can hook it into your gas line and temporarily troubleshoot possible fuel pressure issues at least.

I wonder what fuel pressure your system requires. You can also test your fuel pressure perhaps prior.

That pump I posted would do it. I'd probably go electric too in this posters case. No brainer for $22.

I'm in the process of swapping a 4.0L into my 84 BII. I had to order a new tank and sending unit to accommodate the EFI system. I ordered a tank for an 87, but I think they're pretty much all the same after 85 or 86. The new tank I got is the same size and shape as my 84 tank, but the hole is larger to accommodate the EFI sender. If you're in need of a sending unit for an 84, mine will be for sale soon.

FWIW, before I started the 4.0 swap, my 2.8L had an electric fuel pump mounted just fore of the tank. It seemed to work pretty well, and looked like a pretty simple setup (installed by previous owner).
so did you switch 84 tank for 87 tank? i am wanting to know because i would like to switch also and use efi for my 302. let me know please.

I had an 84 B2 with efi. I didn't do the work but the previous owner did the swap. He used a mustang pump and filed the tank so the pump set would lock in place. I don't remember the details and don't have photos handy. It didn't look like it took much work to make it fit the original tank.

I did swap in the 87 tank and put an in-tank fuel pump. System has been working great since installed!
