Few months ago, bought an 86 ranger 4x4 single cab, it had no transmission or transfercase, had a a4ld laying around, put it in the truck, transmission was a piece of crap, so I called the local salvage yard today and Im going to put a manual transmission in it. The guy asked me was the transmission a 12 bolt or 14 bolt oil pan. I told him that it didnt have a transmisson when I bought it, so I didnt have a clue. They have a 12 bolt and a 14 bolt manual transmission available. Can someone explain to me what the difference between the two are, or is there a difference? Just want to make sure I dont cause myself more trouble as usual. Cause he didnt know what the difference was either. Help me out guys, if I run into another problem with this truck, I just mite blow this Btch up. lol

12 bolt is a mitsubishi FM145 and 14 bolt is a Mazda produced Toyo Koygo. In the 86 model year both are interchangeable.

If it's a 12 bolt bottom pan, it should be a Mitsubishi transmission.

My transmission is a fm145 E57A 7003KC 12 bolt this is a Toyo koygo id number. This was replacement for my original FM 145 E67A 7003 also a 12 bolt pan but is a mitisbitus transmission id number.
Now my shifter has too much wabble and I am trying to find new shifter. If anyone can help I would deeply appreciate it.

I don't know what you mean by a 'toyo kogyo id number'. But the info you need will be found specifically within Mitsubishi FM145 discussion and documentation.
