Hello all -

I am currently swapping in a locking 8.8 axle into my 2000 Ranger with an open differential. I am swapping the entire axle assembly. The donor vehicle was a 2001 - I am reasonably confident that this is a direct "drop in".

I am cleaning up the axle from the donor vehicle - this includes new brakes and related hardware. The donor axle was from up north, so most of the brake hardware was super rusty crusty.

I have found new parts for almost all of the brake hardware - with one exception.

I am looking for new wheel cylinder link pins. I believe the OEM part number is F57Z-2042-AA.

I can not find these anywhere. The ones in the donor axle were very rusted up and pitted.

I saw some references to Carlson H1414-02, but can not confirm these actually fit.

Can any one recommend a source for these or confirm definitively that the Carlson H1414-02 fit / work?

Thanks in advance!

SteveK

Amazon says they do not fit a 2001 ranger

Auto Value (whoever they are) says they do not fit a 2001 ranger

Ebay says they do not fit.

I’m guessing that you are talking about the pins that go in the wheel cylinder. Those have been unavailable for a long time now to the best of my knowledge. It’s a problem. There’s been talk at times about someone maybe turning out a few but I’ve only heard talk.

Found one thing that claims the Carlson part you reference is for a late 80’s Dodge Ramcharger. It does look kind of similar though. O’Reillys says it also fits a 1975 and similar F-100 Ranger (full size truck).

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
I've seen a fair amount of rusty brake parts. Polish up the outside of the pins with a wire wheel on a bench grinder then use a file to clean the rust out of the groove at the end. They may not be pretty but they'll get the job done.

I want to say Carquest 1414-2a from Advance Auto has a good chance of working. Reviews say they've fit Ford 10 inch brakes.

Just a guess... so a comparison side by side would be required.

ask and 'ye shall receive,

looks close, will be a snug fit into the rubber end seal.
the slot is wider, and the seal area is not as long.

Noted.. thanks for the response! Actually, I can get these made, but its a "volume thing"... I'd likely need to make like 1000 of them to make it practical...

EXCELLENT!

Thanks for the pic! I would say "yes, these might work"... but it is a "might"... my pins look exactly like your crusty ones in the pic! I blasted them and put them in a lathe to emery cloth them, but they are still heavily pitted...

You cut the part number off...

Are those the 1414-2a?
yes, genuine made in China Wearever brand 1414-2a from Advance Auto Parts.
one per pack, about $6

EDIT:
on the NAPA site I searched for wheel cylinder brake link ( without vehicle ) and found part # UP 80743

Holy cow, was the truck submerged in salt water?
there is a huge salt mine about 45 miles north of me, that crap is real cheap in this area.

For the rust belt states… basically yes…
NH salts the roads so heavily that the pavement is white between storms. I've never seen anything like those pins come off a running vehicle.
