07 Ranger SC tire size change, help please

I have a 2007 Ranger Super Cab XLT 2wd, MT. I need new tires before winter. Nobody has the tires i want, Michelin LTX 225/70R15, but they have the 235/70R15 in stock.

TireRack lists the dia of the 225 at 27.4" vs the 235 at 27.9". and the section width of the 225 at 9" vs the 235 at 9.4".

I've looked in the wheelwells and can't see i would have a problem. Some models/wheels available for the 2007 had the 235/75R15 as stock tires--but i can't find from the brochure which ones. not the 4wd--they were 16".

Can i do this without any problems other than the speedo indicating a slower speed?

225/235 is the width in MM IIRC

70 is the 'profile' *aka Height*

15 is the rim size.

If they are both 70 profile, I don't think the 235 is over an inch 'taller' unless they have mis-labeled the tire.

*Tire calculator says the new tire is 2% taller, which would be a fraction of an inch.

27.4 Vs. 28.8 would be 3.9% difference, so it looks like their website is wrong.

2% is fine, just do it. Explorer stock tires are 235's

Width wise, 10mm will not rub on the coil sprung front end, at least I'd be HIGHLY doubtful.

Are FX2's still coilsprung? If so, take a look at what the factory tire for the FX2's are as I know they have larger tires.

my b2 came with 205/75/15s, and i'm running 235/75/15 now, no rubbing even at the locks, i'd say you're golden.

dasfinc thanks for the reply. I read the wrong number for the dia and i corrected it in my post. It should have been 27.9, instead i have the dia for the 235/75R15. And it was the the 235/75R15 which were stock on some 07 models--not the 235/70R15. WOW--i don't usually screw up like this.

Anyway--it looks like i'm good to go with the 235/70R15.

They will fit fine. The speedo difference won't be enough to matter. This Sport Trac as well as my last one had the speedo reading faster than you were really going. If that's the case in your truck (check it with a GPS if you have one), a taller tire may actually make it more accurate.

hey man,
i have a 2006 extended cab xlt 2wd. so basically your truck. im running 235/75R15 BFG AT KO's on my truck and they are great! no rubbing, i can take this thing through the forrest and it doesnt even come close to getting stuck. you wont have an issue with space. i guarantee it. but 2wd in the winter id be buying some meaty tires. heres mine:

they are amazing in every condition, and my mpg have gone UP!


btw, if you get a 30 inch tire, you'll save gas. i had 28's and i used much more gas.

thats the tire size my moms 03 2wd is running and it has 0 problems. so ur good to go

You shouldn't have any problems at all. The tire is just about the same size. Your good to go for the tires.

Hi Guys-- I'm the OP and i just wanted to close the loop in case others have this question, and to thnak you guys.

. I got my new tires, Michelin LTX MS2 235 75R15 installed last Thurs. According to my GPS, with the OE 225 70R 15, at 60-- the truck was going about 2mph slower, and about 2mph faster with the LTX. The new tires are quieter, smoother, corner very nicely, and don't slip when i start like the OE Conti's, which still have about 4-6 32's left.

hey man. i have a 2wd xlt that came stock with 225/70R15. i put on 235 75 r 15 and have no problem with rubbing, and they make the truck look real good. your good to go.

I was told speedometers read slightly high. So slightly higher tires might just make it more accurate.
