My 2004 ranger 4 litre v6 4x4 engine just turns over but does not start. I never know when it will happen. It starts the next day again.

Welcome to TRS :)

Carry a can of Quick Start(ether) and a screw driver and/or pliers
Next No Start do the 50/50 test, spray fuel into the engine directly
Loosen Power brake booster hose and spray ether into hose(engine), put hose back on try to start engine
or
Loosen air plenum tube from front of intake, spray ether into engine, tube can stay off, try to start

If engine starts and then dies, Spark is good, you most likely have a failing fuel pump
If engine doesn't start, then no Spark, so most likely a bad crank sensor
50/50

Also when there is a No Start, look at the CEL(check engine light) on the dash, it should go OFF when cranking engine over, if not then no crank sensor or computer is failing
