I'm having issues with my 03 Ford Ranger manual...

I'll jump right into it.

My truck has been running smooth up until this afternoon. It was damn near impossible to put it in gear. I literally had to shove it into gear.

I was barely able to get back to work. Once I did I turned off the truck, let it sit for a minute, and turned it back on.

I'm sure that didn't do anything, but now it's easier to shift, still stiff though, and the clutch is extremely loose. It goes straight to the floor with absolutely no resistance.

I can drive it, but I do have to force the shift.

Also, if I let off the clutch quickly the whole truck violently shakes.

Any ideas?

If not, no worries. I'm about to spend countless hours on line.

Thanks.

My Ranger acted similar about two years ago but the clutch pedal didn't go all the way to the floor and I had to force it into gear. I took it to a local transmission shop and it turned out to be the slave cylinder was shot and works like a champ since being replaced.

I was thinking more along the lines of a master clutch cylinder. My symptoms seem to line up with a bad mcc, but I don't actually know.

How much did that run you?

Have you checked to see if there is fluid in the clutch fluid reservoir? You could have air in the line.

You have had a hydraulic failure. Do NOT continue driving the truck like this as you are doing damage to the transmission.

The slave is the most likely failure, but at this point, and age, it is best to get the master, slave, line, and clutch kit replaced all at once. I'd also change the fluid in the trans since you have been forcing it into gear, putting undue stress and wear on the synchros.

There is fluid in the res.

I currently have a new master clutch cylinder so I'll start with that.

The tranny has to drop in order to change the slave?

Unfortunately the transmission has to be removed to replace the slave cylinder as it is on the input shaft.

So it looks like the clutch needs to be replaced and the fly wheel needs to be re surfaced.

How much can I expect to pay for this? Average... I know y'all can't give an exact price, but anything will help.

I spent about $2,000.00 to have it done at a local transmission shop. That was including resurfacing the flywheel, new slave cylinder, new clutch even though the original was still good and told them go ahead and put a new clutch in while they had everything apart and don't know how it happened but the input shaft was worn on the transmission on my Ranger and had that replaced too.

300 for labor and 173 for the clutch kit.
