Hello, I have an 02 ranger 4.0 4wd. Just the other day I fired it up and it did a pop sound and was very rough running. I have one of those obd readers as it threw an engine light on. I get p0304 0305 0306 cylinder misfire...at this time. I have some plugs and wires to install but would like opinion of possible coil pack as well. It has about 250k on it and has what I think timing chain rattle as well. Is it possible it jumped time? Seems it would be doing backfiring sounds if so. It does start, I have to goose it a bit to keep it running but have not tried to drive it anywhere. Need opinion on that as well. I am trying to make it to a shop about 3 miles from my house either by attempting to drive it or having it towed.

thank you in advance

If >100kMiles, Plugs+Wires+CoilPack are due for maintenance.
Have same V6~4.0L~SOHC+4WD and EDIS-6 Ignition CoilPack+Wires+Plugs.
Recently replaced old AutoLite.app103 Plugs@120kMiles & FactoryOE MotorCraft#5u2z-12259-c\wr6120 Wires@240kMiles
with MotorCraft#agsf22fm Plugs & DayUSA#max28747 Wires.
Removed+Cleaned+Tested+ReInstalled original FactoryOE MotorCraft#90tf-12029-a1a\dge446 CoilPack.
Was tempted to buy new "HighPerformance" CoilPack, Acell#140035 or like, but too skeptical of SnakeOil sales pitch and $100+ price.

You may or may not have TimingGuide\Cassette damage.
If OilPressurized TimingTensioners have never been changed, they're way overdue; pooch may be shot dead now.

Hope this helps.

It's up there.
Total Drop
It's down there.
Tire Size
Round.
My credo
I poop in the furnace.
Codes are all on one bank, definitely coil issue.

Since you've already got new Plugs+Wires, change those yourself first, remove\clean\test the COilPack;
should be ~0.5ohms across each coil on LVPrimary side, & ~13kohms across each coil on HVSecondary side.
If it's bad, a JY replacement is a few bucks; before spending on fancy coil, get the truck in basic running order.
While under the hood, clean the MAFSensor, ThrottleBody, IntakeManifold, IACValve, PCVValve, check for Vacuum Leaks.
Backfires can blow off or burst a vacuum hose or two.
