Got an 02 2wd 2.3L 5 speed I'm trying to get rolling cheap as possible. Came with no Key, also needs new ignition cylinder. Any ideas on easiest, best, and cheapest COA w/o having to break the bank at the dealership cut n programmed?

Or is it possible to just eliminate the anti-theft altogether?

Welcome to TRS :)

No, no way to by-pass or eliminate PATS on 2002 Ranger that would be cheaper than just getting 2 new keys

If you are computer savvy and have a laptop you can use Forscan software, its not too expensive, you also need the OBD to USB cable to hook laptop to the vehicle to add 2 new keys to the Ranger's computer

You also need a new key cylinder with matching PATS keys

You can order lock sets on-line, 2 PATS keys, 2 DOOR locks and 1 ignition cylinder
Because you also need door keys???

As for, the quickest fix, that would be to get a Mobile Locksmith to come to the Ranger, one that has Ford software on a laptop
You still need the new ignition cylinder
He can cut new PATS keys and then add them to the Ranger computer

You need to add at least TWO new keys, can't do just one, unless you already have one

Thank you...if I get the locks, keys, and cylinder all together, what's the going rate for the locksmith to program the pats keys, or is that something I could do myself with a laptop, cable, and the software?

If the locks are original to the truck, you can have a dealer or automotive lock smith cut you keys based on the vin that should match right up to what you have. Then you could program them yourself with forescan or have a mobile lock smith do it for you.

+1 ^^^

Dealer or Locksmith can use VIN to replicate keys as well but you need PROOF of ownership

Call a couple of mobile locksmiths and ask them the price to come to your location(Rangers location)
Price will vary for travel time of course

And the work that needs to be done, i.e. do they need to cut new PATS keys or do you have them and just need them added/programmed into Computer

Thread here at Forscan site on programming/adding PATS keys using Forscan: https://forscan.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=839

Remember you also need the Cable(OBD/USB) to hook YOUR laptop up to the vehicle

Programming in new PATS keys should include ERASING all the old keys in memory, so previous owner can't "find a key" and take/steal vehicle, lol
