'01 Torsion Bar Stock Adjustment

Hello all,

I have a 2001 Ranger, extended cab, step-side bed, 4x4 with the torsion bar front suspension. I recently redid the front suspension with new upper and lower control arms, shocks, stabilizer links, etc. I am not trying to make my truck anything other than stock, its just that these pieces were extremely rusted and needed to be replaced.

My question - when releasing the torsion bar tension, I counted the number of turns on the torsion bar screw so that I could return it to stock afterwards. The issue is that it is very different on the driver's side vs passenger side:

Driver side: 21.5 turns
Pass side: 14.5 turns

I haven't been able to turn up any information on what this is supposed to be. Can anyone help with this? I assume the two sides are supposed to be the same, but I don't know what the correct value is.

Going by number of turns of the bolts will almost always different and that is not the way to get it right anyway. Attached are the instructions for measuring ride height and the specs for it. You adjust the bolts to get the ride height within these specs. This is for model year 2002, but I think 01 would be the same.

You will need to use new bolts or Loctite to keep them from moving with time.

Boy I got mine wrong then when I reset everything. I went with 1.5” difference front to rear and matched the rear lean with the front. LOL

Ha! Okay, thanks for posting this. Is that from a factory service manual or something? I figured there had to be a more legitimate way of setting the torsion bars. I've only had the truck for a few months so who knows what work was done to it over the past 19 years. Thanks!
