I have a 01 ranger automatic, its a 2.3 and doesn't give me what I need. I want something much bigger and have no idea where to start. I need to know from you all what I can do. Prices, which vehicle is ideal to take the motor from, and any specifics that I need. I don't have a large amount of money and would like the most efficient way to go about this. Every detail helps so I would love to get a lot of feedback, thank you.

Lots of guys are big on the 4.0, it fits right in from a doner ranger or explorer and can be cheaper way to get more power. 5.0 will give you more factory ponies and alot more to build from the market is huge. you need a doner car with a truck rear sump oil pan or a double hump pan. So Mustang, crownvic, t-bird, cougar, f-150 or van not a bad swap its all in the v-8 swap tech section, Im personaly going 351 windsor since i have a built one lying on the floor in my way haha. good luck

You won't need the mustang dual hump oil pan. 5.0 explorers are great donors, with a good part of it being able to be used. You will have some wiring to do. Check out my sport Trac build, first post, for more detailed info about the swap...
