how to install valve lifters on 2.9l without tearing the whole thing apart

how do i install brand new valve lifters on a 2.9 v6 without tearing the whole thing apart. she’s ticking like all hell. i saw a video where a guy removed the valve cover, then rocker arms, then pushrods and used a grabber type tool to pull the lifters out? is this possible on the 2.9 or could...

    2.9l giving me a headache

Hi guys, it's been a while since I posted about my truck. This past winter the pig died on me at a gas station, crank no spark. Got it towed home and after some inspection found a suspect-looking ignition coil power wire. After I fixed that the truck would start sometimes but kind of struggle...

    2.9 intermittent spark and stalling

Hey guys, I’m having an interesting problem with the old bronco II and ide like to see what you all think. About 8 months or so back I was parked getting gas, when I went to start the truck it just cranked away but didn’t start. So I got it towed and really didn’t mess with it much for a few...

I have a problem with the old 2.9l v6 i just rebuilt for my 1989 ford ranger. after rebuild the oil pressure shoots down pretty much the same time the coolant temp starts to rise. i also noticed a slight smell of gas coming from the coolant? so far no leaks, no mix in coolant/oil. runs great...

    EGR valve control solenoid question

Dumb question of the day... Is the EGR valve control solenoid supposed to make a noise after I turn the truck off? It’s tough to describe but it’s a buzzing sound that lasts 1-2 seconds. Getting code 31. Also looking for vacuum leaks. ‘86 STX with 2.9 Thanks all!

    Combustion Chamber Bowling

Carbides are on their way courtesy of Bezos and I'd like some opinions before shredding my heads. Yes, the consensus is the ports aren't great but the bowl design is abhorrent. It's almost like Ford intentionally shrouded the intake valve just for the 2.9. For reference: 2.8 vs 2.9 vs 4.0...
  12. '86 2.9L fuel filter canister bypass

Good evening so I've struggled with this black, twist apart fuel filter for long enough. I'm wanting to run a filter like today's modern, shiny, one-line in, one-line out filter and just straight line the return right back to the tank. Is that going to cause any issues? And if ii can what fuel...
  13. misfire at/around 3000 rpm

I posed this on a different ranger forum, fixed some other issues based on the replies(Thx, RonD) but not the main issue, so perhaps I can get some fresh eyes on the problem It is a misfire or intermittent lack of fire around 3000 rpm. The tach drops when it happens. I have replaced Coil, Fuel...
  14. 1991 Ford Ranger 2.9 v6

Hi I’m going to look at a 1991 ford ranger with 300,000 km (186,000 miles) on it. I don’t know too much about it or any of the ford rangers but I know it has the 2.9 litre v6 and the transmission was rebuilt 100,000 km (62,000 miles). The clutch was also done at this time. The guy wants 1800...

    2.9 Starter problems

Hey guy, I wanted some input on a reoccurring problem I have again with the bronco 2. The trucks got a 2.9 with a fm145 tranny out of a 85 ranger in it. The truck sometimes makes a clatter or almost grinding sound for a split second as the engines ignites. Right as you crank it over and the...

    Engine ticking

So I have a 91 ranger with a 2.9l and I'm hearing ticking on the driver side of the engine. It ticks whether it's hot or cold. I opened the valve cover and ran it. All the rockers are getting plenty of oil. Any chance it's an injector. Just want to know the problem before spending money trying...

    88 Ranger Restomod

I bought the truck in August 2019, haven’t had it a year yet and I have completed much more than I thought I would, one of the few things I can thank COVID for lol. I didn’t even start taking things apart until February (2020) The overall goal for this truck is to build it into a nice daily...
