    Steering Shaft Boot

I haven't been able to install it yet - my main goal, before the winter set in, was to get the 302 bolted to it's mounts in the truck, sealed up & the hood shut and I was able to accomplish that in middle November just before the real cold weather & snow set in - looking forward to getting back...

Question about swapping in an 8.8 Explorer rear & signal to my speedometer

Everywhere I read today states that my Ranger rear, with the code 86, is a 7.5 open rear with 3.73 gears so my plan will be to locate an 8.8 - thanks everyone

Question about swapping in an 8.8 Explorer rear & signal to my speedometer

I took a couple of photos today of the center of the rear, the tag & the door frame sticker - matching them up with photos of a 7.5 & an 8.8, it looks like it might be a 7.5 and the rear is original

Question about swapping in an 8.8 Explorer rear & signal to my speedometer

Thank you for the great information, Josh - on that same subject, I am being told that a lot of Rangers came with the 8.8 especially aiming at the ones that had the 4.0 engines installed from the factory - if this is true, I have to assume that they were all Rangers had drum brakes in 1998 -...

Question about swapping in an 8.8 Explorer rear & signal to my speedometer

I am swapping in an 8.8 rear out of an Explorer or a Mountainer because of my project to swap in a 302 into my 2000 Ranger in place of a 3.0 - not noticing any unit on the original automatic transmission for getting a speed signal to my speedometer, I started reading up on this subject - her is...

    It was pretty insane LOL!

    Motor mount question

I just wanted to say that you were correct in the locating pin location - it is about 1/4 inch further apart from the threaded stud - I found one on Rock Auto that was specific for the left side using a 4.0 engine and it fit right in place

Air Bag & related signal Question

I am prepping my 2000 Ranger for a 302 engine with a 4 barrel carb & a distributor (old School) plus converting from the automatic to a World Class T5 out of a 1986 Mustang and I can foresee using very little of the large computer plug on the firewall - right now, I know I need to send the...

    Steering Shaft Boot

In my case, I had no battery in the truck since I am getting the truck ready to install a 302 - with everything out of the engine bay, it is easy to spot defects all around that need some attention

    I didn't expect this LOL!

I've been having trouble getting the radio/heater control bezel away from the face of the dash no matter what I try to do - the bezel was free after taking the 2 screws out of the bottom but something was holding the radio in there solid - finally the bezel cracked and then I tried even harder...

    Steering Shaft Boot

I saw a video where someone else used a rack boot but he packed grease in the boot but none into the actual u-joints so it really doesn't do much good - I can see where grease is still in my joints so I left that alone - not like it is rotating at full speed LOL!

    Motor mount question

Wondering what the difference is in mounts from side to side when mounting a 4.0 in a Ranger - my Ranger originally had a 3.0 in it and I can see the big difference in mounts for a 3.0 - the driver's side is maybe 3 inches higher that the Pass side

    Motor mount question

Is there a specific left and right motor mounts (different) for a 2000 Ranger with a 4.0 engine? The reason that I ask is, to use the adapter plates in order to drop my 302 into my Ranger, I have to use 4.0 mounts. When I ordered them from Rock Auto, it stated L or R so i ordered 2 of them but I...

    Steering Shaft Boot

My steering shaft boot was seriously shot on my 2000 Ranger 2wd and, searching the internet, I learned that they did not make a replacement - I watched a video where someone took one that was close enough and made it work but had to do a lot of cutting to make it fit - I found a universal boot...

A few things I need identifications of

The cooler might be a good idea to hang onto for the time being - maybe it can be used for something else if I can clean it out - might make a decent oil cooler - that ball vacuum reservoir does lead over to somewhere under the heater blower box so that should stay - the EVAP will become history...

99 Ranger V8 swap and manual to auto conversion

Very nicely done so far - I am doing something similar but different to my 2000 RWD Ranger - after my grandson blew the 3.0, I inherited the track and picked up an old school 302 with a Holley 4 barrel carb and changing from the automatic over to a World Class T5 out of an 86 5.0 Mustang

A few things I need identifications of

I have been going strong on cleaning out the engine bay, on my 2000 Ranger, in preparation of installing the 302 Holley 4 barrel engine and find some things that are still left behind that I am not sure if I should leave be or not - I am including a few photos with this post asking what these...

Need a favor (auto to manual conversion)

I learned something today, doing a search of "2000 Ford Ranger Speedometer" that may tell me that you are absolutely correct- - -this is what it said "The 1998-2000 Rangers are not equipped with a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) receives vehicle speed information...

Need a favor (auto to manual conversion)

Thanks---it is just something else that I still need to keep - I suppose that the ABS runs through the computer?

Need a favor (auto to manual conversion)

Let me ask you this----where does a Ranger with an automatic transmission pick up it's speedometer input from so the gauge operates?
