I totally agree with this sentiment.
But I'm pushing 70 and the aggravation of fighting with them just wasn't worth it to me.
Don't get me wrong, a grand is a chunk of change!
Just moving on from my mistake.
He got screwed too... thought it would take him 6 hours labor and it took em 16...
Finally gave up and took the Ranger to a muffler shop: Meineke.
They also could NOT fit the RockAuto cats directly on. I left the truck overnight for an "estimate". When I called the next morning they had already cut the exhaust before I could stop them. Dirty dogs. I ended up paying almost a...
How do I go about troubleshooting an intermittent tachometer on my 1999 4.0 automatic 4x4?
Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.
I have both workshop manuals and the electrical manual for the Ranger.
Don't know how to start.
Please help!

Where Google fails... try Youtube!
Found it. TRQ has a video on replacing the cam sensor on Youtube for 1993-1997 Ford Ranger 4.0 engines. Even though mine is a 1999 the sensor is in the same place. Back of the engine near the firewall.
I checked and sure enough I had not plugged my sensor...
Finished the valve jobs. Installed catchcans. Paid Meineke $900 to cut, reweld and install front "Y" cats from Rock Auto.
When all was done I had two codes to sort out:
P0113 - Intake Air Temperature Circuit High Input.
I forgot to plug in the connector. Plugged it in a the code went away...
Update 8/20/2024:
I decided to go with two cans:
Placed the first one (from passenger's side valve cover to intake snorkel) on the side of the engine compartment, using the supplied bracket and an existing bolt just under the hood. I'll have to remove the bolt to get this one open. Not...
The old one was off my '99 4.0l OHV. No idea if it was a replacement. Probably was. The engine had a rebuilder's tag on the block. And the heads were 3rd party.
RockAuto lists this exhaust for both the 3.0 and 4.0.

The new front exhaust & cat's were a no-go. Didn't even come close to bolting up. Front connectors to exhaust manifolds were tilted too far back, would not match up. The rear connector was at a different angle than the rear exhaust. If connected the rear exhaust would have been at an angle. The...
August 17, 2024 update:
Everything is installed except the front exhaust and catalytic converters.
Runs smoothly, although a bit rich as the O2 sensors are not installed yet.
Did you connect to just the oil filler tube on the passenger valve cover?
Or did you connect to the driver's side PVC valve? Did you block off the driver's side intake manifold?
Or both?
Not quite sure where you put everything.
Would you please give me some more details?
Russ
The weather here (20 miles or so west of DC) in summer is worse than it was when I lived in Sarasota Florida!
My driveway, where the Ranger is parked, faces west-ish. By 1 or so pm the sun is blazing down on the black hood. I really shouldn't even try to work on it once the sun clears the...
