NEW USA STOCK CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH 1995-2003 FORD EXPLORER RANGER 96 97 98 99 | eBay

Do you think these will work?

This one they say OEM part# is F87Z9C888BB interchange SW5928

They say they have backlighting and should work in the '97. We'll see.
Hope I didn't throw away $50 (no returns).... but at least, let's say there's no backlighting, I can see if I can strip the guts of mine and put into the new outer parts since mine work, just torn up to hell.

I wonder, if it's possible that '97 buttons will work in '98 but not vice versa. I guess that would make no sense.

My neighbor's '04 Ranger cruise burned up then he went for the recall and they told him the recall was only up to '03.

Um, so, if I put in that part which is supposed to be correct, if it isn't correct, is there any chance if it's wrong that stuff starts burning up? Or they just wouldn't work?

You can make anything compatible if you want to, I have an 06 steering wheel with it's cruise buttons, airbag, and clock spring, it plugged right into the 98 dash harness and I don't have an airbag light. I've also taken the cruise module and installed it in older stuff and just made my own control panel, it truly is a stupid simple system.

Thanks. So you're saying, even if they are wrong, they won't burn something up.
You must have looked at the pinning and adjusted it to make things work although if you swapped the whole wheel maybe you didn't have to do that.
Simple is good.

Correct, it just may not work, there are only 2 wires to the cruise system coming from the wheel, the servo is just looking for varying resistance to ground from the buttons to be told what to do anyway.

Yes it appeared that way in the diagram there are only the 2 wires that are actually for the buttons the other wires are for the backlighting and horn.
I rec'd the buttons today, pulled one cover, it looks to me like it has LED's. So we'll see. I know my stock torn-up ones have 2 backlights each side. In the new ones there are 2 in the right place, if that's what I'm looking at, they are quite tiny squares so I'm assuming that's what they'd be.
Hope to get them in over the weekend and will let you know results when done.
Got the wires off them, lord only knows why they ship like this, to my knowledge usually you are re-using the wiring in the wheel otherwise you have to take it apart more, I believe. It would make more sense to ship them with the wires off and then if somebody needed them they would be easy to put on. Taking them off isn't excessively difficult, just have to be careful to not mess up the pins, and, when taking the wires off the existing ones, to be careful to not mess up the wiring. It is do-able without damaging them just being careful. The set I got for the '99, I had a heck of a time getting the wires off, these, not so bad, already took them off.

Thanks.

I got the buttons for the '97 XLT from TruParts $40. They are a perfect replacement for the OEM part F77A-9D809-BA which were the old ones. The new ones have backlighting, and the fit/performance is exactly as OEM.
