I just purchased a 2000 XLT Ext Cab, 4WD Automatic truck with a blown engine. I own a Clean 2001 Ranger regular cab 2wd Edge 5 speed. I would like to swap the Steering Column, Transmission, and 4wd components to the Regular cab Edge. The XLT is a 2000 Model 4.0 and the Edge is a 2001 4.0 Do I need to swap the computer and Wire harness also to have the Auto Transmission work?

No, you can't/shouldn't do that swap
2000 has a 4.0l OHV engine, which is "blown"
2001 has a 4.0l SOHC engine, different engine
You need the 2000 computer to run the automatic, 2000 computer can not run the 4.0l SOHC engine, so no go

You could buy a 2001 4.0l SOHC automatic computer..................................

2000 Automatic is a 5R55E but..................the 2001 5R55E had 2 added sensors that the 2001 automatic computer needs
So can't use the 2000 5R55E trans have to buy a 2001-2011 4.0l automatic

2000 4WD Ranger uses the GEM Module as 4x4 controller and SPEED calibrator
2001 4WD Ranger had a separate stand alone 4x4 controller and computer does the SPEED
But have to have the 2001 5R55E automatic for that

2001-2003 would be fine to do the swap
1998-2000 would be fine
2000/2001 not so much, just too many differences

Look for a blown up 2001-2003 4x4 4.0l automatic Ranger
Its still hard work to re-enforce the frame up front and mount the front axle but doable

You can make an Edge 4x4 fairly easy as is with the front axle and transfer case, but the electrics like Ron said might be an issue, that's part of why I stick with the '97 and older stuff or why I put a manual transfer case in my '00 V8 Explorer...
