Hello,

My father recently got himself a gem of a 1999 Mazda B4000 from a dealer, only 72000 miles and in immaculate shape. He's looked for a truck like this for a while. This forum's helped him out quite a bit all ready. But we're having a few bits of conflicting info and maybe someone might be able to help clarify.

He would like DRL. As I've seen it, there should be a little module he needs to add, and I've seen this:

Would anyone be able to clarify if this is accurate that this unit will add the DRL feature. If not, what other methods are available?

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

It looks like that is made as a replacement for a failed module. I didn’t look at the whole list if vehicles under “fitment”. Is your truck on the list? Did your truck originally have DRL?

if not, that module could probably be made to work. But you would have to have some wiring diagrams for it in order to add it into your truck. You might get better documentation if you can find an aftermarket universal module to use.

No, that is a replacement module for vehicles already equipped with DRL

Here is a post that has the details to add DRL DIY style: https://www.therangerstation.com/forums/index.php?threads/diy-drls.116027/

True DRL runs the headlights at about 70% brightness, it uses PWM to lower the voltage to the lights
And many use the high beam bulb not the low beam, but only if it has reduce voltage

Your 1999 may have had the option for DRL so the connector is there but not the fuse or module for it

DRL Module should be located behind drivers side Headlights under battery on rad support......I think
2000 Ranger location seen here: https://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/muddyford/2011-04-19_015604_3.png

Should be same as 1999

See if there is a 6 wire rectangle unused connector near by
Fuse 6 in cab fuse box, 15amp, was for DRL module
