Got my rebuilt A4LD installed and am back on the road with my 92 4.0 OHV. I had to replace the kick down cable as I discovered it was broken and probably had been for many years. Problem now is when I get on the road, as soon as I put a little foot into it, it kicks out of OD right away. It never did that before probably because the cable was broken but it is a V6 and shouldn't kick down so quickly. What is the procedure to adjust the kick down properly?

Also, that little plastic speedometer gear in the tail housing of my A4LD is worn out. What is the correct part number for the gear when I have the 3.55 rear end installed. Is there a source for a new one any more?

The adjustment procedure I found on Explorer Forum was this:

"The part with the base under the hood has a release button. You press this button while pulling on the assembly. After it's completely extended, you go into the vehicle, step down on the accelerator pedal, then listen to the sound of plastic notches clicking (similar to the sound when you pull on a wire/cable tie). The cable is now adjusted."

The speedo gear you are referring to is the one on the end of the speedometer cable, correct? Not the big plastic gear on the transmission output shaft? The one on the speedo cable is readily available, you just need to count the number of teeth on it and order one to match... ebay, Amazon, probably elsewhere always have them in stock.

Thanks for the response. I had a look on the both sides of the accelerator pedal and here's what I see.

At the top of the accelerator pedal:

58701

From the firewall side:

58702

I tried looking for a button on the grey plastic housing but could not find anything to press. Is there somewhere else I should be looking?

I haven't looked on the transmission itself to see if the kickdown has any adjustment underneath. I might have a look there as well.
