Deengineer until it is how Blue Oval should have sold it!!
Hello,

Decided to finish the tune up on the 87 Ranger. I took a chance on 2 unknown companies through The RockAuto.com;

*Standard Motor Products hi output "BLUESTREAK" coil $28 (it's actually BLUE).
*United Motor Products "TRI-PACK TUNE-UP KIT", a set of 8mm silcon suppression wires/copper conductor cap/copper conductor rotor, wire separators, wire #indifying stickers and field trip grease $32.

Just unpacked everything; cap/rotor look as good as or better than anything else I've used, the wires look beefy, very nice. They are pre made so very little to do but install

I will be putting them in tomorrow. The 2.9 is still running a little rough so any improvement is welcome ..)

Blue Streak is Standards low priced line... we used to use them at my old job. In 15 years, we only had 1 issue with a single distributor cap.

On "non complex" stuff, I've never had a problem with Standard Motor Products. I have no second thoughts using their stuff for basic ignition components like that.

I would never buy an electrical component like an IAC valve from them though...

Thank you for your responses. I needed to have a SOLID system to troubleshoot against.

snoranger. If I had known it was their bottom of the line, I would have looked elsewhere (if my budget were under my Control).

Gaz / snoranger-

I always thought Blue Streak was their heavy-duty line. My dad used to use their parts for years either on customer's cars or his own Power Wagon, and he ran that truck to over 400,000 miles.

According to their website, it is their high line. Granted, they may not be top of the line, but they are probably not top of the line price.

You’re right. Blue streak is the high line. t series is the economy line.
Still, my comment about only 1 issue in 15 years still stands true... That’s not a bad track record.

I do remember getting a bad PCV valve for my 2.3 from them, not sure how you screw that up but it was weighted wrong and stayed closed all the time. 🤔

Bought a motocraft and you could physically feel the difference in the weight/spring...

Pcv valve is a calibrated vacuum leak by design. Always use an oem pcv valve to avoid trouble.
