2000 Ranger Engine swap. Is a Mazda 2.5L (Vin C) an identical replacement for a Ranger 2.5L (Vin C)? Like to hear from anyone that has done it. I don't want to ship a motor cross country to find out they are not compatible.

We can pull all the sensors, etc from the Ranger 2.5L, just want to make sure it is 100% compatible.

As long as it's a 1998-2000 Mazda B2500 then yes it is the same engine.

What about replacing a 2.3 with a 2.5? According to Esslinger Eng. You can use a front cover and intake from Argentina? I guess Argentina made 2.5 Rangers. I am looking at the extra (50?) HP. Is the 2.5 Mazda the same stuff? My Ranger is a 2002.

A 2002 ranger has a duratec 2.3, completely different and unrelated engine than pre 2002 rangers, they used the Lima 2.3. The duratec 2.3 makes significantly more power than both the Lima 2.3 and Lima 2.5. Swapping a 2.3 duratec for a 2.5 Lima would be insane.

There is a 2.5 duratec, but it was never used in U.S rangers (it was used in mid size cars like the fusion). The rangers sold in South America that used the 2.5 were a completely different truck. Google T6 ranger for more info on those.

Thank you! Brian at Esslinger Engineering mentioned that the intake and timing cover from the South American 2.5 Duratec could be used to convert a FWD 2.5 Duratec to fit my 2002. I wasn't sure about the Mazda and thank you for the clarification! I will look up the T6 Ranger I would like to have the intake and timing cover in hand before I buy a 2.5 Duratec Fusion engine.

You are in Calif
Engine swaps are frowned on even using the same model engine, lol, must be same year or newer and you must PROVE IT or can't license it

Yes, you are using displacement to ID an engine and that just won't work, there are many 2.3 liter engines and many 2.5 liter engines, and many 3 liter and 4 liter and 5 liter, ect...............

North American Rangers 1983 to 2011 used several engines
For 4cyl there were
2.2l Diesel
2.3l Diesel
2.3l SOHC Lima
2.5l SOHC Lima
2.3l DOHC Duratec

For V6
2.8l OHV
2.9l OHV
3.0l OHV Vulcan
4.0l OHV
4.0l SOHC

Actually Ron I do know better about the FORD Duratec 2.5 but wasn't sure about the Mazda 2.5 engine and appreciate the information given me by members here. Yes I am in CA and am aware of the "rules" regarding engine swaps as I originally wanted to do a 5.0 swap. To do so I would have to start with a 2000 instead of the 2002 I have now. Soooo when Brian told me about the 2.5 Duratec and the special South American parts needed to do it , I became interested. Our smog testing is a "plug in" not a dyno or sniffer deal so "I" think I can use the 2.5 and get away with it. It appears mine already has a replacement engine from some time before I bought it at 155,000 miles. Now that I am at 219,000 , I am starting to put a new engine plan in place. Having one "done" before this one acts up is the plan. I would like to find the part numbers for the South American intake and timing cover so I could try my USA Ford contacts to buy them and get started.

Update , The only "critical" part is the South American intake and I have that located. If I use the Fusion engine , I use a 2.3 Duratec (Ranger) valve cover ( for the coil pack mounts) and timing cover and oil pan. I plan on having ti fully "dressed" so it will be a plug and play. Brian thinks the 2.3 computer can cope. I will update when it happens. If anyone has experience with this PLEASE let me know so I can be "smarter about this . No EGO here just want more "smog legal" stock looking power.

The 2.3l computer shouldn't be an issue, if your fuel trims get too high then you can go with slightly larger injectors

But the 2.5l injectors may already be slightly larger
