Mystery console electrical connector

I noticed this connector hanging down from under the center dash console the other day and I have no clue what it goes to. Anybody have a guess? As far as I can tell all my controls and such work so I don't think it's a connector that fell off something recently.

Interesting. Any labels on it? What wire colors? I could check my ‘93 EVTM later and see if anything looks familiar. Are you running your original stereo? What does it taste like?

I can get another photo for the wire colors. The harness itself is run low along the bottom of the console so I don't think its supposed to reach up to where the stereo resides. I do have an after market unit in that I installed myself but it is fully functional so I don't think that is the issue. What is the EVTM? And it tastes like crusty 26 year cranky truck that just doesn't want to get right.

EVTM is the electrical and vacuum troubleshooting manual. It contains all the electrical and vacuum diagrams, connector locations and pinouts, circuit descriptions, wire colors, troubleshooting tips and more useful info.

You can usually get them on ebay. It is specific to your year model.

Ah. That would be the one manual I don't have for my truck. I have the body book and the powertrain book... but not that one. Nuts.

I have an after market radio installed but I used all the connections when I hooked it up. The harness for this one runs low and behind the ash tray while the radio is installed a few DIN higher up in the center console. This truck does have AC but again, all the center console controls are working fine. I bought the vacuum and electrical troubleshooting manual and when I get a minute I'll poke through that and see if I can identify the connector.

I got the book and took a look. Best I could tell was that it is C219... but I have no clue where it goes or what it does.

In the back is a location index. Look up the connector number there. In the "page zone" column, it tells you what page of the evtm shows the location of that connector. Go to that page. For example, page 151-10. On that page, on the left side are letters, on the top are numbers. It's a grid system. Find your connector using the grid coordinates after the page number, such as B-8 which would be row B / column 8. There it will tell you the name of the circuit or device. Then you can find that in the appropriate section of the book. When you get to the circuit, you will see that connector labeled in one or more locations in the diagram, depending on which individual wire you are tracing out.

I do and I did and the more I look at it the more confused I get. I'll need to look at the harness leg again and how it routes and compare that to the diagrams. Everything on the truck works fine so I can only figure it for an extra feature the truck wasn't optioned with.

In your photo, I see a part number 14a459. In my 1993 evtm, that corresponds to a RABS test connector C212. Not much info given. It mostly tells me to see the RABS troubleshooting info in the service manuals that I don't have.

I took a look in my EVTM for the '94 ranger and C212 is located in the corner next to the firewall on the driver's side near the e-brake. I can verify that as I've used that connection to test for RABS flash codes. I'll get back out to my truck and trace how the harness runs to see what it feeds to. It sits right under the ashtray in the center of the dash.

It could be for the optional and extremely rare heated, cooled, magnetically stirring musical cup holders in the center console.
