As someone with French Canadian ancestry, I know that 4x2's are the studs you use on the other side of the building.

Ok guys.....question time...

I think i mentioned already i was planning on enclosing the ceiling....but im also planning on enclosing and insulating the other walls that are already there (might as well).

Im planning on R19 fiberglass for the walls....but what R value do yall recommend for the ceiling?

Im planning on installing a hanging propane heater...as well as mounting up the massive room AC unit i have laying around. Might as well lol.

Suggestions?

More is better. R19 minimum. I'd be think R30-ish.

But, it's just a shop. How much do you want to spend? Extra insulation cost now will save on heating and cooling costs later. Will the doors be insulated? How well will they seal? If you get the walls and ceiling maxed out on insulation, but there's a big ol' sliding slab of wood barn door leaking conditioned air, how much does it matter? I don't know. Just trying to spur your thoughts.

I dont plan on using the heat/ac all the time. Just turning it on an hour or whatevee before i go out.

The sliding door im building for the partion wall will be insulated. But the garage door is not. I didnt think about that till you mentioned it.

Even with only heating the space for an hour or so at a time, more insulation in the ceiling might be worth consideration. It will take more energy to heat up and maintain the heat in the space with less insulation. One has the balance the initial cost of the added insulation to the cost of whatever you are using to heat the space in the long run.

My garage is uninsulated at the moment and uses a lot of kerosene and propane to warm up and maintain heat. I want to insulate the garage at some point because of that. Very cold days, it's all I can do to just keep the temp around 50 degrees in there as a result.
