I am picking up a 92 STX 4x4 114k for $600 today and plan on doing quite a bit of work to it. It has been sitting for about a year and a half! I have a quick couple questions about the suspension....
I have read a few places that the STX had a factory 1.5” lift? So would buying rough country leveling coils be the same as just replacing the factory height STX coils?
My plan is to install 30” or 31” tires. If I am correct about it having a factory lift, will 31” tires fit without leveling kit? Also will 31” tires fit on the factory stx wheels?
Pics please!
Thanks

I’m pretty sure the high rider/ sport rider package (factory lift) was only available 87-89.

Jealous, I would love to have bought that for $600.

I picked up my ranger today! Before I got there I picked up a set of new 235/75/15 tires on some black Jeep wheels. The old tires were shot!
After putting new gas in it and a battery it fired right up! Can’t wait to get working on it this week.

Son of a gun...

We sure don't have trucks like that around here.

Glad to see you excited about it... you should be honestly... that's a gem!

The 31's might hit the front bumper and rub a little (I don't know, never ran a stock front bumper once I was 4x4), but nothing I would be worried about, the two sets of 31's I ran didn't rub as bad as the 35's do with a 6" lift :)

Wow, great looking truck. Body looks like it's in good shape. I like that it still has the STX stripes. Rare to find these days.

I'm also digging the Expedition.

As mentioned: "During 1987 and 1988, the ‘High Rider’ STX offered a unique suspension with 1.5 inches more ground clearance than previous year’s 4×4 model. We have since discovered that the same suspension was offered in 1989, but it was called a ‘Sport Rider’ STX. The Sport Rider STX package was available on the standard cab and Supercab Ford Rangers. "

So I got the camper shell off and cleaned it up a little more. I want to lift the front to match the rear, can anyone verify if the rough country leveling kit will lift the front? It looks a lot taller than other rangers of that year. I was thinking about ordering a set today and do not want to waste my money if it is not going to help.

The leveling kit will lift the front yes. You can use new coils or spacers under neath the coils.

You will need to get some adjustable camber/caster bushings so that you can align it afterwards.

Here's mine with a spacer leveling kit and 31x10.50 tires

The problem is, I have the STX model and mine looks as high as yours factory in the front. And higher in the back for sure. So will the lift coils actually do anything for me in the front?

The STX model that you have isn't lifted from the factory; that was only the High Rider ones in 87-88

Get us a picture of the front axle and one of you measuring the height of your coils. They are likely around 10". Then take a look at this thread

https://www.therangerstation.com/forums/index.php?threads/wanted-coil-spring-measurements-when-installed-stock-lifted.185504/

The leveling springs will probably sit at around 11.5"

You can also stack some 1 1/4" (they need 1 3/8" hole which 1 1/4" washers have for whatever reason, 1 3/8" washers aren't common and have a 1 1/2" hole) washers under the lower coil seat, there's room for about 1" of washers which will give you a little over an inch of lift, as said you will need adjustable camber bushings after that, NAPA has some that are fully adjustable for around $30 a side last I looked.

THAT is a rare truck. Majority of the '89+ STXs were extended cabs. I've seen a handful of regular cab long beds but never a regular cab short bed. Is it a 2.9 or 4.0? Auto or 5 speed? As others have said, your 1992 would not have had the factory lift. I ran 31x10.5x15s on 15x8 on my old stock hight '92 and only had to roll the bottom rear edge of the fender a touch for clearance. Throw some coil spacers or 2" lift coils on there and you should be fine with the 31s. Please keep that truck in nice shape!

My ‘89 STX was a regular cab, short bed, sport rider... That was a fun little truck.
