A friend of mine Patrick is restoring some vehicles (one of which is a 1990 Land Rover Defender 90.) He is scrapping the motor and transmission/transfer from the Defender 90 and giving it a transplant: a 2017 Ford turbo-diesel eco-boost and is mating it to the only transmission that would be ideal for it: a transmission from 2019 4x4 Ford Ranger. Patrick was having a bear of a time finding just the transmission itself from Ford, but did get 2 ordered. If anyone wants to grab the Defender 90 four-speed transmission and transfer (6 positions I think on that) and the 4 cylinder 200TDI turbo-diesel...come pick it up in Central Florida (think he's asking $3K.) So I guess this project would be called would be "the Def-anger." Pic. is of Ranger towing another type of Land-Rover, not the Defender 90, but still funny (pic is from a good article on 4X4 Australia.)

Update Nov. 24, 2019:
Eco-boost is not a diesel (as Sgtsandman corrected.) Patrick got the whole clip for a 2015 Eco-boost...pedals, gauges, radiator and wiring harness. If you wanted to you could actually start it with fluids in it and a battery.
One is going in a (I guess) resto-mod Defender 90, and the other in another resto-mod. Check out this company doing Toyota Landcruiser Resto-mods: fj.co not Ranger related, but just to show concept of what others are doing with updating powerplants in vintage trucks. Patrick is still looking for a salvageable 2019 Ranger transmission & Transfer.

What makes the fully electronically controlled 10spd in a Ranger ideal for a vintage Rover swap?

Ecoboost is gas too...

Interesting swap idea.

I agree on the turbo diesel ecoboost. Two completely different engines. It’s either a turbo diesel or an ecoboost.

Not sure 85 4x4, Patrick is French Canadian so....creative. Still, the original Defender 90 set up is available.
