WHY DO I KEEP BUYING DODGES?!?!?
Since it's axle and 3.0 related, I didn't know where to pose this question, but what is the most common rear axle ratio for a 3.0? I read a lot on here about what a turd it is, and from what I've seen in sigs and threads is that a lot of guys have 3.73's. I have 4.10's and an auto, and I think mines pretty peppy myself, so I'm wondering if maybe the perception of the 3.0 being a dog is more because its commonly found with a 3.73 final drive instead of a 4.10 final drive. I drove my stepfather in law's 1998 3.0 with a 5spd and that thing just felt gutless, but mine's always seemed to leap at a stoplight pretty good. Like I said, just curiosity getting to me. I know I burn E85, but I wouldn't think that extra 9HP/12trq would make that much of a difference so that's why I'm thinking it's just that so many 3.0's have a different gearing. The other two people I know with 3.0's - coworker's 2000 FFV and my friend's 1998 3.0, are both auto's and both have the off road package and have similar gearing to mine, so maybe 4.10's from the factory isn't common in a plain 3.0 like mine.

Just wanted to hear your thoughts......

4.10's aren't all that common in fords period... they tend to use higher gears... my dad's 96 f-150, for instance, came with a 3.55 l/s 8.8 i have no idea what my f-150 had, i think my 250 had 4.27's... but i'm fairly sure it was larger than the 8.8... maybe lower than 4.27's actually... i seem to remember ford putting 5.somethings in some super duties...

3.73, 3.55's were common, 2.73, 3.08's and 3.38?'s were very common in the fox bodied mustangs, which came with 8.8's i think the lowest gears they put in the mustang stock were 3.73 (standard models)

(when i say lower, i mean more of a crawl ratio)

Really? So maybe 4.10's are an offroad thing, because whether 3.0 or 4.0, the "off road" badged rangers seemed eager to chirp the tires when I drove them...

mine's got 4.10's and yes, it is an fx4...

i don't think it's dependant on the off road model,i've got a friend who's got the 4.0 sohc, auto, 2wd, 4.10's (which he specifically made them put together, as i don't believe the 4.0 was available in 2wd) i can't remember if his diff was special order or not though...

There I fixed it for you. Mine was a 3.0 (now a 5.0) w/ 4.10's and it is 2wd. :icon_thumby::thefinger:

Interestingly, most of the 3.0's I see around town are 2WD... you can tell because the grille is slightly different and they sit a couple inches lower. I know they're 3.0's (or were - there's a 5.0 swap or two around here) because they have their FFV badges. There's one that could be my truck's twin, right down to the topper brand, other than the wheels are different and its 2wd.

shouldn't, you asked a legit question, and your hypothesis was wrong...

if everytime someone who made an incorrect hypothesis was wrong, then there would be a lot of people who shouldn't have PHD's (like sheldon and leonard)
