No, not my Ranger, my little Gas-sipping '98 Escort-SE

what did it finally do after 215,000 miles (on the original engine & trans)?

No, I didn't die, it still runs and drives... but it stopped "sipping" gas.

Folding my 6'4" body into that tiny ass little cracker box was tolerable because It usually got high 30's sometimes low 40's

But suddenly like flipping a switch it's getting 17mph, it's probably just the HEGO, possibly the MAM, but it's frigging cold outside and I just don't want to deal with it....

Anyway I replaced it with a '97 Taurus... 3.0 Duratec...SHO? we don't need no stinkin SHO...

Now If I could only coax those damned power adjustable seats into a tolerably comfortable position... but it is more comfortable than that damned escort.

Hey, even the mona lisa is falling apart.

My Ranger is pissing me off....along with my BII, but who can blame them.

The 3.0 Duratec doesn't get all that great mileage, does it?

I vote get a heater and fix the little guy.

You may not be the only one unhappy about their Escort. A couple years ago someone in our town went on a rampage vandalizing only green Escorts.

It'll tickle 30mpg for some drivers and I've always been able to squeeze a bit more out of a gallon than anyone else I know.

And compared to an escort that is currently getting <19mpg?
AND gets itself high centered in more than 4" of snow.

How do you high center a car that doesn't have the ground clearance to get anything under it in the first place?

Momentum worked wonders for me in my car days. :icon_thumby:

I couldn't get enough to get more than halfway over the windrow that the plow driver left behind me in college, then I had to claw my way back in to shovel some more. :no2:

Interesting. I noticed that with my X just a couple months ago. I realize they lose fuel economy when it gets cold....but it hasn't been all that cold here yet and i've lost about 150-200 Km's per tank!! Thank god I don't go far with it.

You needed more mass. I had a 78 Omega. That thing would lay frame over speed bumps, but she never got stuck in the snow.

I used to have pics of where I ran up the side of a snow mound that got plowed into the corner of a parking lot. Broke the phone they were on.

The Escort has actually gotten stuck sitting in a plowed parking spot when snow drifted
UNDER it and it would get stuck trying to leave it's own "footprint"

It probably doesn't help that because it's an SE "sport" it sits a bit lower than
a normal 4dr Escort And I haven't helped the situation by putting it on
205/50-15's on 15" (2nd generation) Escort GT rims.

But as the tires are Goodyear Eagles (GA's) I've NEVER been able to make
it slip or slide on pavement, I'm reasonably sure that at the cornering limit
(wherever that is) it'll simply tip over.

But it's got high miles, a fuel system problem and an engine management problem
and as soon as I find the title it'll be someone else's problem.

a friend has been asking for me to sell it to him and I just told him "it's Yours"
He's going to run it to death on his 75mile (each way) commute.

It never did get stuck stuck, but it did get pretty close. It really didn't help that I only had a foot or two to get a run at it.

I got rid of a set of 7500 mile-old GAs on my 98 JettaGLX because they scared the absolute SHIT out of me in the rain to the point where I wouldn't drive the car when the weather called for precip. First sign of water on the pavement, these things were sliding all over like I was on ice. A lot of A3-series VW owners ditched the GAs on their cars for the same reason.

Wait, is it a Duratec 3.0 or is it a SHO? The SHO engine in gen 3 Tauruses is a Yamaha 3.4L V8.
