Good clutch?

I'm doing a long-block.....ought'a do the clutch, too.

I was looking at a Hays 90-239, but I like to hear from anyone that's had any make for a long time.

....or other suggestions.

My vote is for zoom. Had mine for over 2 years now and not a single complaint. Wether its offroading up a steep hill, towing or heavy load in the bed, submerged in water, to daily driving it has been flawless. When the times comes for a new clutch I wont hesitate to buy another zoom clutch.

exedy or fidanza. centerforce if you dont mind the peddle pressure.

please for the love of god dont get a puck style clutch, you will hate every minute of it.

I have used Centerforce clutches for over 10 years with no problems at all...

I had a zoom in my 3.0. I didn't like it because after less than 40k miles it got to where you could no longer modulate the engagement well. There is a wavy spring between the friction faces that is supposed to make the clutch engagement easier to modulate and it completely collapsed.

The result was that I had zero engagement for most of the pedal travel then within 1/4" of travel the clutch went to full engagement, making takeoffs jumpy without lots of practice. Hardly any wear on the disc and no signs of being burned up. Plus the throwout bearing it came with failed after three weeks, forcing me to pull the tranny yet again and replace the entire slave cylinder assembly.

Im trying out a centerforce this time since I'm rebuilding my engine. The clutch itself feels physically built better. About an $80 price difference between the centerforce and zoom kit in my case but the centerforce does not include a throwout bearing.

Pedal preasure is an issue....my left knee can give me problems from time to time.

go with fidanza or the exedy stage one. they have the least peddle pressure.
hays is also a good clutch for stock to slightly modified. they all are good clutches.

just noticed you got a 2.3, go with the hays, this will be plenty for that engine.

I appreciate the info.....what about a flywheel? A couple places I check said the flywheel is no longer availible. The only one I've seen after market is a Sachs. Any good?

Looks like I'm going to keep the core and maybe rebuild it myself over time, so I want to keep its flywheel attached, besides I'd need it surfaced anyway.

You can just get the fly wheel cut down just like you do with rotors.

The engine that's in there now. I'm purchasing a long-block from StaatsSburg, NY (7yr. 100k warrantee), I'm in Texas.....I don't want to ship the old engine back, so I'm keeping it. The "Core".

I like the Hays, but they all say the fit the "Super" model. I have no idea what a super model is, but I'm pretty sure mine isn't....just a plain XLT.
