How much weight is enough?

Just curious. How much sand or gravel do you put in the bed during the winter months? And No! You good ole boys south of the Mason-Dixon need not answer!

But yes... 4wd. My cap also adds weight and my spare weighs 70lbs...

I've never added weight to a vehicle- other than when I get into it. After my father died in 1989, I got his 83 Ranger, 2wd, shortbox, 2.0, 4 speed- thinking I'd do the valve job it needed, run it a while to make sure it was good to go and flip it. I drove it through 6 winters before my kids got bigger and couldn't both fit in it. I thought about adding weight but never did. With 3.08's and a 2.0 it would hardly spin a tire- only one, no limited slip.

I don't add "weight" as in steel or such. However, at times I have been seen with added snow packed into the box for weight. being that as it warms up, the snow melts out and there is no need to take said steel back out again.

Don't keep weight in bed of truck. Don't need it 2wd rocks winter.

Saw a truck rear end a transport on the highway, truck had cinder blocks for weight.
They slid forward went through the cab landing in the engine bay. Engine was pushed under the tailor.

I used to run 2-300# in my 2wd Ranger. Kinda depended on tires, I played with weight a lot with it trying to find a good compromise that didn’t take up all my bed space.

My 4x4s I usually don’t bother. First few winters with my F-150 I put a couple hundred pounds in the bed, used tube sand from Home Depot, but they often froze and either stuck to the bed or would slide around slamming into stuff. And they were always in the way. Once I put my first set of Mastercraft Courser CT tires on and a locker, between that and having a ladder rack with side boxes, weight isn’t needed except when I have the plow on (even then I’ve made do without weight).
