Can anyone get me, or tell me how to get, an Oasis Report on the '97?
Dealer claims they can't get any info on it, too old. I find it hard to believe Ford just trashes old info.
Trying to get duplicate sticker.

Ford says they'll send me the sticker, has to go to Research Team first so we'll see. Went online and their chat. Should have done that first off.
No Oasis reports from them, they referred me to Marti. But getting sticker was the big thing. I can live w/out Oasis/Marti, only wanted that to be able to reconstruct the sticker.

Yes, in today's world we expect everything to be stored digitally somewhere, even if we DO NOT want it to be, lol

But prior to 2000 it would be hit and miss on whether or not data was stored, it was expensive to store data

In 1980 a 1GB hard drive weighed 550lbs and cost $40,000
A 5MB drive was $1,500, there are 1,000MB in 1GB

Good graphic here on cost of hard drives: https://visual.ly/community/Infographics/technology/cost-data-storage-through-years

And there is a cost to save the data on the hard drive as well, the building and electrical power plus the other equipment the drives are in, not much use in storing data if you can't retrieve it
CDs/DVDs were also used, but then you have to catalogue where each is, whats on it, and then pay someone to access the data on each as needed

We had keypunches, you made a deck of punched cards then you put a rubber band around it and put them in the box at the window and the computer people pick them up and run your job when it gets in queue then you get your printout and hope it doesn't say it failed to run or the results are garbage.
My computer today has a 1T drive. It had 2x 1T drives, but one was failed when I found it tossed out on the street. So that's the value of drives by comparison, it's cheaper/easier to just buy another one.
I can't see how I'd use ever use 1T. They were doing a lot of video stuff. Of course in 1984 we said how could we ever use 10MB it would never fill up.

Seems like things should go to solid-state memory? Then you don't have the moving parts of a disc.

Thanks, nice link!

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
Its way too easy to fill up multiple TBs If your into videogames. Some (a lot) of games nowadays are 100+ gigs... and that's before any DLC's (downloadable content... what used to be referred to as an expansion pack)

I doubt Ford has trashed data on any vehicle since 1960 or before. Making it available to an individual consumer is another story. Not too much financial gain to manually typing in 10s of millions of records into a record data base to give away for free. I am sure they have kept at least a paper copy of everything or are storing an electronic version of it, even if they currently have no way to export it.

You ever hear of Kevin Marti or a Marti report? The only reason anyone knows him is because Ford was throwing away all their old data.

Doesn't the DMV keep records of most of it ?

The perfect is the enemy of the good.
Ford verified some info and supplied some. They say the truck was built with these tires:
P265/75R15SL S/BLT OWL A-T
What's S/BLT? Serrated Black Letters? If that's so, then Ford is saying it could have been either black letters or white letters, as long as it's that size. It can't be both BLT and OWL unless I'm misunderstanding.

That it came with the 31" tires would make sense, as the speedo reads about 5mph high at 60mph (with 235/75R15) so 31" should bring speedo about in line, also, nice to know that by going to 31" I am actually putting the correct tire and someone along the way went to the 235's because they're like half the price, and, it is also a correct tire for the model (but not for that specific truck, relative to its speedo gear).

DMV surely has records but the thing is, I believe (perhaps wrongly) that the relevant info they would give me - if anything - would be where it was registered and I already know that from the Carfax - it was always registered here in Roanoke (2 owners - the first owner kept it 20 years and the second, 5 years). I don't think they will give you the people's names and really I don't care about that, I'm not going back to them for anything. Luckily the dealer had printed the Carfax for me, as once it came off their ad, I can no longer get the free Carfax on it.

The other interesting thing Ford supplied is where it was sold. That's not the same as the ordering dealer, but for purposes of the sticker I can make an assumption that they ordered it... it really doesn't matter especially if Ford doesn't know, and it doesn't affect the truck in the same way as knowing what tires it had originally. It was sold 20 miles from here which would make sense. I have a mind to drop by there and see if they have the original invoice - and I guess I could ask them if they'd give me their dealer region code, that would be the same for any vehicle they order. Granted the region codes change over time, but it's not a critical thing.

One thing funny is they said the trans is 5R44E / 5R55E. Was there even a 5R44E? This I may be able to tell from transmission tag (?). The shop manual says it would be either 4R44E or 5R44E and I'm pretty darn sure it's not the first.

Funny they can find some things and not others. You'd think they could put their hands on a build sheet. Seems like the info comes from different places. They refer me to Marti, but pretty sure Marti can't get me a build sheet. True they have some things.

Now all I am missing is

Rim size (this I can get by looking at the backs)
Tire inflation pressure for 265/75R15
Front Gross wt
Rear Gross wt
Special Order Code (I'll assume for now it had none....)
Front Axle Reserve
Total Accessory Reserve

I think that's it... I think one or more of you have a '97 XLT so if you have the large tires you could tell me the pressure?
As to the weights and reserves this has to be tied to the spring codes? Or it's standard for the model? I'd appreciate any help there.
They said gross wt is 4920 if that helps any.

Oh, one other thing, they verified E4 as Vermillion Solid, my shop manual says it's Vermillion c/c (clearcoat) so I'm wondering wtf is "solid" unless they mean, it wasn't 2-tone. I don't think they mean it wasn't c/c. But "solid" isn't in the manual, you see what I'm saying there. I really doubt it was -not- c/c, I think they all were.

It's a slog.

Edit: Ford say S/BLT is Steel Black Lettering. I have no idea what that is. Steel belted radials? Steel colored letters?

Solid might just indicate that it’s a solid color and not a metallic. That would be my guess anyway.

4R was used 1995 thru 2000 on 4cyl and 3.0l V6 Rangers, and 1995-1997 4.0l
5R was used on 1998-2000 4.0l Rangers, although some 1997 4.0ls got the software

Difference is in the computer software, otherwise the same transmissions, computer added a faux "2nd gear" using OverDrive ON in 1st gear, for an "added" gear without actually having to add a gear, lol
Changing an advertised 4-speed in to an advertised 5-speed

In 2001 all Rangers got the 5R software, and 2 extra sensors were added

44e is the torque rating, 440ft/lb
55e 550ft/lb

4cyl and 3.0l V6 got 44e
4.0l got 55e, has a larger OD drum
