i recently acquired a BBK 66mm throttle body from a junkyard 4.0 and after installing it has genuinely made a change in the way the truck responds when you hit the gas, it’s just plain faster/stronger in every way. on this power trip i am looking for a set of headers for the truck, what have y’all bought/tried and what has worked/not been good or not fit right. current setup is stocks manifolds, stock y pipe, stock cats, and then coming out the intermediate pipe. i am planning on keeping the cats + getting a side exit off the intermediate pipe. am open to any ideas for the entire exhaust system.

BBK and jba headers have always been good. For an exhaust, my personal experience is Flowmaster. I owned a 94 4.0 ranger and used a Flowmaster original 40, it sounded good..heard many others, Flowmaster was my favorite. My 94 3.0 ranger had the Flowmaster original 40 for 20 years, got older and migraines could not deal with it, so I changed over to the Flowmaster 44..I Absolutely love it. For exhaust I would suggest the original 40 or super 44. These older 4.0 engines sound and perform best with a Flowmaster.

AFAIK, JBA makes the only 4.0 OHV headers. I put a Gibson cat-back on my old Sport Trac, fit like a glove, kinda loud but sounded good for a V6. No headers.

I just picked up a BBK 66mm and was thinking of adding headers. I haven’t gotten mine on yet. I’m glad to hear you liked them. Let us know if you get headers and what you think.
