My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
It’s a proven fact that most wild game is far healthier than common farm raised animals for us. Venison is considered leaner and healthier to eat than chicken. So I would definitely vote for eating more wild game than anything. Meat from local farmers is next on my list. Everything else? If I have to… just don’t fully trust commercially raised stuff. I don’t know the names of the animals I eat, but I’ve met a few of the local farmers and the vibe of this area is likely about what it was in 1799 when our local church was founded. People around here farming have largely been here generations doing the same thing and are proud of it. The one big local potato farm, the old man is in his 80s and still throws a big bag of taters around like it’s a feather. I like getting food from people like that rather than a supermarket.

What's the worst that could happen?
Did you ever wonder what the deer in farm country eat? Then wonder what the farmers put on their crops to maximize their yield?
Not hating on venison mind you.

Lead follow or get out of my way
I've been wondering why I put my health concerns here in my build thread... but I look at the Bronco II daily and shop/dream about all the things I want to do with it almost constantly. But the reality of it is that this bump of Basal cell on my arm limited pretty much everything I want to do with it. So I'm going to post this follow up to these concerns... and hopefully in a few weeks of more radiation treatments... I'm going to get busy fixing/modding this truck and get to enjoying it.

So on my second day of radiation... the doctor come to visit me and go over the full body PET scan results. He confirmed the mass on my arm was Basal cell and there was no spread to anywhere else in my body. The victory celebration was really short because there was a... But. Yeah... the dreaded But. He went on to say that they identified a small mass in my left lung and it would need to be biopsied. He also stated he had already made that appointment for me. Total blow to the victory celebration I had going on in my head. So I stewed hard for two weeks until the biopsy... then twice as hard while I waited for the results. Lots of time to reflect on 40 years of being a smoker... all the lousy harmful crap I've breathed in during my life... and what all of that had done to me. However... I never gave up hope that it was simply nothing to worry about. I had the biopsy done a week ago today. Then I spent the next four days with painful breathing and coughing up blood. well my phone rang Thursday afternoon and I was asked if I wanted the results now or to find out the next day when I was there for a radiation treatment. Before I could even answer... my nurse I see there 5 days a week couldn't help herself and shouted that it came back none cancerous. It was some kind of fungal infection and that the mass was really my body encapsulating it in self defense.

I have to say... I feel completely blessed that I can say that today. We are making huge changes in life because we know I dodged a really big bullet. I will also say that quitting smoking is rough. I'm down to really just the four cigarettes that I actually enjoy the most throughout the day. One with my first cup of coffee in the morning... then one after each meal. Hopefully even those will get easier to do without as time goes on.

I may make a post over in the Health Forum as I try to get Uncle Gump healthier. Feel free to comment... but in a few short weeks the weather will be better and I should be in better wrenching shape. I'm so looking forward to getting the G-Unit going in a better direction then just taking up space in the driveway.

I quit sometime in 2009. And 100's of times before that. You may find you slip back to fulltime smoking.... dont beat yourself up. But in my experience cold Turkey is best. And I stopped drinking too, as that has always been my downfall being able to stay quit. I do have the occasional drink now, but never more than 2 in a row. And usually months apart. Because why drink if I cant get drunk.... (I was a good alcoholic, which is bad...lol)

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
The quickest way to escape nicotine withdrawal is by going cold turkey apparently.

Nicotine stays in your system for 2 weeks. If you stop smoking but are adding more nicotine to your system through gums or patches or whatever else.. while it may keep you from smoking.. you'll still feel withdrawal effects.. which will make you want to smoke lol.

I'm glad you seem to be in good spirits Gump. Super glad your lungs are ok. Excited to see what you do to the bronc.

I'm not sure how I could be down on spirits right now... I won the big prize on the wheel of life. I'm going to be thankful for every sunrise... we only get so many. This entire thing give me some new perspective on life... being grateful and made me remember how to count my blessings.

I'm not sure how my psyche would handle being in your situation, your positive outlook on things is absolutely an inspiration.

Well... I have high hopes to start getting busy on this project next week. I have a few things to get done around the house before I dedicate any real time to it... my wife will shoot me if I don't. I've been easing into some more physical activities and have found I get tired fast and my arm isn't ready for hard labor just yet. I've been pretty laid up with this for over 4 months... just gonna take time. Even my doctor told me that again today.

I'm about to go shovel this dirt and level it out for some grass seed. But not before I placed an order from the Bronco Graveyard for new door panels... upper door seals... window set rubbers and rollers. I figure I can do most of that sitting on a stool if I get tired crawling under the damn thing.

It really kills me to look at this truck daily... plated and insured... and it's not ready to drive. I hope to change that in the next few weeks.

Where are the Illinois Ranger/Bronco II enthusiasts here that can help this guy shovel his dirt?

I love that Bronco II. Can't wait to see you healthy again and driving it to a TRS event.

That is my current plan Jim... get it to the trail ride in September.

As for the dirt... my wife called it 2 yards of physical therapy. I would be more interested in getting it done today... but this blast of 90 degrees came on to fast.
