Hybrid drivetrains are reliable at this point. I wouldn't hesitate to get one in principle, but I think the ROI isnt there for a lot of people either on strict fuel consumption

If it were me I'd go Sonata just off of size. I'd also lean toward the hybrid if annual mileage justifies it for you.

My credo
Crossed threads are tight threads.
I read Hybrids catch on fire more often than sole gasoline or electric vehicle

Where did you read that.
Some random article while scrolling through the news on my phone during break...No surprise Google knows I'm a car guy and sends me news reels accordingly. Might have jalopnik or something...

I’ve read the same thing. Hybrids are the fireyest and electric are least firey. But believe it or not, I’ve never had a car decision swayed by likeliness of it catching fire.

Just spent quite some time comparing the sonata, Elantra, and k5 side by side. They all sat the same. Definitely felt like the all three were the same car. I’m pretty sure they are (some length modification to the Elantra). Same seats, screens, driver room, seating position. It’s truly a tossup coming down to price and general atmosphere.

The Tucson sat very similar too. Like a sonata that has the floor a few inches lower

Tucson is based on the Elantra, Santa Fe is based off of the Sonata. again, K5 and Sonata are different. K5 replaced the Optima. the Optima and Sonata ARE the same platform. Optima is NO MORE. K5 has an AWD option that Sonata does NOT have. Sonata has Hybrid option K5 does NOT. They all do have the same "tech/Nannies/doodads"

Well, I have been working on a 2014 Kia Soul for a neighbor and besides the terminal problem with the bad cat. the plastic connectors for the coils are made of such cheap plastic they crumbled just squeezing them and now I have to zip tie 3 out of 4 coil harnesses to the coils.

My wife's 2013 Ford C-Max hybrid has been a good car and she has put about 100k on it. If you are looking used, I would consider one from the last model year (2018?) with a FORD extended warranty.

New, I might consider the uni-body AWD Maverick.

The more I work on foreign vehicles the more I like Ford trucks.

@Chapap My dad bought a 2022 Elantra yesterday form a Dealer in NC. He is ecstatic. With his "veteran's discount" he was able to reach a little higher up the tree and got himself an SEL with "tech" package.

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
I’m wary of boxer engines. The oiling problems may be solved now… but there’s a history there.
The only oiling issues they had were on turbo foresters/outbacks/legacys, and the issue has long been fixed.

It was a simple solution anyways.

Pretty obvious why when you think about it.

It is both systems combined.

So whatever makes ICE engines burn is there.

And whatever makes EV's burn is there.

1+1=2

WRONG

The K5 was based of the K10 and was only offered with 4wd.
