Realistic expectations at 100 yards with a .22lr?

This 19 year old ex-cheerleader now an Air Force Security Forces Sniper, was watching a road in Pakistan that led to a NATO military base when she observed a man digging by the road. She engaged the target (she shot him).
It turned out he was a bomb maker for the Taliban, and he was burying an IED that was to be detonated when a U.S. patrol walked by 30 minutes later. It would have certainly killed and wounded several soldiers.
The interesting fact of this story is the shot was measured at 725 yards. She shot him as he was bent over burying the bomb. The shot went through his rectum and into the bomb which detonated; he was blown to pieces. The Air Force made a motivational poster of her. (Folks, that's a shot 25 yards longer than seven football fields) and the last thing that came out of his mouth ... was his ass!

If .410 wasn't as expensive as 12ga I'd own one... going after gophers and voles with a 12ga seems overkill but it's the option... that's why I bought a 20ga, in not ridiculous times it's slightly cheaper to shoot but I wanted one at the wrong time so I don't have too many shells on hand now...

My credo
Crossed threads are tight threads.
Bolt action .410 is awesome, and rare. I think they're made for slugs. Is the barrel rifled?

If your gonna have .410 ammo around and want a revolver hand gun to play with, might I suggest the Taurus Judge. It shoots .410 or 45 colt without any changes.

The .22 should work much better now after de gunking. I also use brake cleaner lol. My regimen is gun cleaner and scrub, brake kleen spray out, compressed air blow out, oily cleaner scrub (break free) and patches, then oily patches to lube it all up. Repeat any steps if necessary.

I've seen a video of a Taurus Judge exploding when a guy went to shoot it, and I've heard of it happening other times too. I couldn't find the video on the internet anymore.

If I wanted a .410/45long Revolver I would go for the S&W Governor, also holds 6 rounds instead of 5 plus comes with moon clips to used .45acp.

It's a smooth bore barrel with a modified choke so it'll shoot anything.

I contemplated getting a judge once for the cool factor until I rented one at the range. That gun serves no usefully purpose in my opinion. It kicks too much with 45 long and in .410 it's barely effective for defense unless you're 10 feet away. Still a cool gun but I prefer my Ruger GP100 .357 mag.

My 10/22 mag will hold a little tighter groups at a hundred.

I saw a .410 over/under the other day... I almost bought it for my new rabbit gun. I just couldn't get past the price of ammo. I'm holding out on a double 20.

I didn't know Ruger ever made a 10/22 in .22 mag :dunno: .22 mag was on my list before I got my .17wsm but there didn't seem to be alot of guns I liked in that. If I had known Ruger made a 10/22 I might have gotten that over my savage.

They use to... I haven't looked in many years. I have 3 Ruger carbines... 10/22... 10/22 mag and a tube feed 44 mag. They are all nearly identical.

I really want to put Hogue stocks on all of them. I don't like the grip of the Ruger stocks... but I sure do love the guns.

Ruger’s website only shows .22mag in bolt action, and Wikipedia states the 10/22magnum was discontinued in 2006.
