Realistic expectations at 100 yards with a .22lr?

Think you'd have any luck finding .17hmr in the current situation?

PSA had .17hmr on the shelf the other day. When I was looking at rimfire guns .17hmr was on the list but then I read up and decided on a Savage B mag .17wsm because everyone raved how accurate it was. And it is... But NO ONE has .17wsm. I've fired one box through that gun and now it just sits.

I don't shoot .22lr much but picked up a second Marlin model 60 and a cheapo 4x20 scope down here in Georgia and started plinking, I already had a Marlin model 60 but it was old and beat to death so it was retired to hang on the wall and I never actually fired it since I was a kid. Anyway, I can't get this damn thing to shoot under 3" groups at 100 yards from a bench. Am I just expecting too much for a .22? Does this rifle just suck? What is realistic accuracy to be happy with? Using 40 grain CCI mini mag if that matters...
I can't do any better than 3" groups at 100yd with my scoped Ruger 10/22.

Well at least that makes me feel like I'm not a failure. :icon_rofl:

Tried moving the targets to 50 yards but ran out of CCI mini mag and just had some uncoated tac-22 but I quickly found out the gun won't cycle the uncoated stuff.

Crossed threads are tight threads.
its usually not the gun but the ammo, .22 is pretty inconsistent accuracy wise, at least in my experience. If you can find and afford match .22 try it out. Oh and .22 is a very dirty round, clean the rifle often and thoroughly will also help accuracy. and 100 yds is a bit far for small groupings.

I just picked up a box of Federal match grade .22lr so we will see in a bit... About twice as expensive as CCI mini mag so hope it's a tad better. It's not copper plated though so who knows if it'll feed.

Well the federal match ammo seemed more accurate but won't cycle... I'm taking this thing apart to see if it's gummed up or something. I should have done that the second I brought it home since it's a used gun but it looked clean so I didn't bother.

I picked up a Springfield model 18 bolt action 410 while I was buying ammo... I should not be allowed in gun stores in the south... Got that for $175 but it needs a magazine.

Just because the ammo is not copper coated doesn’t mean it’s not coated.

most .22lr has a wax coating to it feed, but the coating will clog up the action and bore quick enough.
