On the 4.0l the thermostat housing/coolant outlet will crack and leak a bunch if you over torque it during maintenance. Got to be really careful with them. Both my Gdaughter's 02 and my 08 have had them replaced.

You can get a cast aluminum housing that won't crack either from Amazon or www.Zabteck.com.
Also check the radiator cap. If it is a 20 lb unit then replace it with the 16 lb unit for a 2000 Mustang V6.

Hello again,
The biggest problem out there for not only Rangers but Ex's, and a lot of the other models FORD had the wisdom to change... "the Door Windows, leaning forward while Closing and some while opening"... Manual and power windows.

This is also true of my 97. the power window goes up much faster if I grab the top forward corner of the window while pressing the up button to keep it straight and then letting go at the last 2 inches

The only thing I can think to add to wvcat's post is the typical driveshaft thud/clunk when starting to accelerate and when coming to a stop.

Vibration from the rear end at speeds over 65MPH. Actually seems more like a buzzing sensation in your @$$ and in the gear selector. Tires and wheels are new, true and balanced. No one can seem to figure it out. U-joints apear to be in good condition and the bearings are good. If anyone else has this problem let me know.
im having the same issue cant seen to figure it out

The drivetrain clunk is more of a thing with manual transmission equipped trucks than automatic transmission equipped trucks just because the auto transmission is constantly applying power through the drivetrain. Manual systems don’t do that as much.

Check the recommended suggestions above. But if you have a manual, drivetrain clunk is indeed a thing due to backlash in the system.

A properly suspensioned Ranger can be safely airborne for up to 4 seconds at a time! =:O
Ford sells a special high pressure teflon grease for the driveshaft slip joint splines to eliminate the clunk. It's called motorcraft XG-8. Only works on the 2 piece driveshafts with the slip joint on the shaft itself, not the one piece driveshafts with the slip joint that goes into the transmission tail housing.

FYI: That 3 oz. tube is a whopping $28.xx at Duh Dealer, $14.xx on Amazon... and only $6.29 at O'Reilly... go figure.

I always thought the clunk was the trak lok kicking in. I thought the clunk on takeoff was the coolest thing when I was a kid lol

How do you actually get it from them? Oh their website I'm seeing it as unavailable both in store and online.

I used waterproof grease made for atvs and jet skis. Also not cheap, but seems like it did the job. I think Bel Ray makes it.
